Just ordered a complete Mk 4 kit and have a question on FFR's power steering option. I can't find anything on what is include in the price of the option. I will be running a Prestige Motorsports windsor 427 with their Style Track alt-ps serpentine front belt system.
Thanks for any replys.

I wasn't aware Factory Five offered a power steering option for the Roadster. Just checked the complete kit order form, and still don't see it. The only power steering I'm aware of is the electric power steering option they have available for the Hot Rod? Is that the one you're talking about? I'm aware that several have adapted it to the Roadster, but I don't know any details. That system is not engine driven. Maybe you could explain a little more.

I talked to Courtney Friday afternoon and she quoted me a price after talking to a tech but she did not have the specifics of what it included. It seemed pretty exspensive but that is hard to evaluate without the specifics of what it included! If the quote was just for a power steering rack alone definitely not good value which would indicate you get a lot more than that!

You really need to find out what you agreed to purchase. I've never seen Factory Five selling power racks for the Roadster, and doubt that is what you're getting. Likely it's the Hot Rod Unisteer power assist setup, that still uses the manual rack. It's pricey, so that matches too. Thanks Ed
I think you are correct that it was a "power assist" not a true power steering unit!
I did not order the system Courtnie at FF quoted as she did not know what the kit consisted of so I am ok there.
I emailed Mark at Breeze with all my power & pump spec's and from what other have commented on he will be able to come up with a complet kit to meet my needs! Thanks to all that have replied to my question.

Looks nice! That should get the job done.

Have a look at KRC pumps. Nice stuff, but a different bracket than your March set ($1750 - ouch! I have about $300 in mine, but not as fancy). If you can call a power steering pump sexy, this is the one. The Ford pumps work well, but I am not happy that the cap never really seals well. Mine was puking a little from the vent at my last autocross.

The reason I went with that system is it allowed the power steering pump to be mounted up higher completely out of the way of the steering wheel knuckles & shaft! I did not like the idea of a single belt with a large exspanse between alternator and steering pump! Plus it is a good looking system.

I used a Flaming River power rack and their remote pump which is a Saginaw II. I bought the Breeze pump mount bracket. The whole system works perfectly. I had to readjust to use the inner mounting holes on the Breeze bracket to clear the steering shaft but now no issues. I like the look of the remote reservoir for the Saginaw pumps. I am running a serpentine belt system also which the Breeze bracket accomodates.

Out of town but will send next week. I cannot comment on other options but I can say that the Flaming River rack appears to be a work of art. Beautifully crafted. They seem to appreciate it also as it is reflected in price. From what I have gleaned from other posts , the Breeze rack is fine also. There is a lot to be said to go with a known supplier with all of his recommended add ons. No need to experiment.
Having said that, i am really satisfied with the FR but it costs probably twice what the Breeze setup does.
I have not installed the Heidt's valve since at this point I do not think it is needed. You should check that out in other posts. I may be mistaken but I think there were some issues with the KRC pump. Check out on the forums. Henry

Hey Henry! I'm not aware of any issues reported with the KRC pumps. Many reports of using them on the other forum, and nothing reported. Most of the comments are very positive. I hope not... I just received one for my new build a week ago and am in the process of installing. They're not cheap, and if using the iron one (what I bought) you have to be mindful of the pulley arrangement to not turn it more than it's designed for. But no big deal and all well established. Maybe you're thinking of some reported issues with AGR racks? Some reports of them not being designed for the pressure from OE pumps and leaking.

Paul,
Could be the AGR racks. I was not sure what the issues were so I hedged. Merry Christmas.

I recommend going with Mark at Breeze after trying various alternatives without success I ordered the 3:1 Power Steering Rack (which is actually a Unisteer rack) and the fittings and SS braided Teflon hose. The pump with reservoir was sourced from AutoZone.

I need to update my build thread with info on my experiences putting it together.

Thanks for the info. I sent an email to Mark last week but have not heard back from him as of yet as he may be shut down for the Holidays.

Richard,
Please PM me your email. I just switched to WIndows 10 and cannot figure out how to post pics. If you will send me your email I will send you the pics of my install. Although I love the system I am using there probably is a lot to be said for Mark's which is proven over many builds. Henry
