48784I have read all the posts regarding this and I am trying to look at all the builds.
My windshield install is really delaying my progress.
I cannot get the clearance needed to put on the doors and my lines look horrible.
any thoughts? see pic
I have decided to build the front bumper . fenders and hood as a separate clip and HOPE it can be easily installed as one piece.

how does the fender line up and the bottom to the side sail? It looks like your front end/ fender is to far forward.

Side sail was placed 5/8 inch back from post as per threads
Fender and bumper are as far back as I can get them
Wheel well spacing is perfect , front tire is centered.

The windshield needs to be higher
Gap is horrible

I pushed the windshield has high as it would go on mine. On one side I still had to dremel about 3/16" off the bottom of the fiberglass windshield frame to get my mirror mount to clear.

You door looks really far back. Did you measure the 5/8's from the flange they leave on the side sail or from the side sail the way they show in the book?

I started from the proper point, the flange is excess and I still need to trim some.
Was the passenger side the side that needed trimming?
I was watching the videos of fastthings on YouTube. He built a GTM and really do lots of bodywork.
Guess I need to start to learn how to mix bondo.

Yeah the passenger side was the side I had to trim. I don't know why it was so off. I lowered the door as much as I could and still had to trim it quite a bit.

Mine is 1/2 inch lower than driver side
Thinking of taking grinding bit an elongating holes to raise that side.
Have to see how that screws up overall symmetry

Mine is only off about 1/4 of an inch... and I can't figure out why either... you just have to try to fudge it to look best. My windshield frame is up and forward as much as possible on the passenger side and is up and back quite a bit on the driver's side to get the door spacing closer to equal. Photos and discussion months ago...

No one can see both sides at the same time, right?

Insurance guy. Does the body line on the front of the sail panel line up with your fender? Looks like your whole nose needs to come back. Many of us have had to notch the nose around the radiator support to move it back.

my nose looks exactly like yours.
I think if I trim the bottom windshield it might look better

All my 818S builds I had to trim the windshield frame at the bottom some. Make sure you have the measurements correct on the frame of the windshield if you want the stuff to work right. I also had to trim the front hood on all my builds.

Is that opening between the door and fender supposed to be quite larger? If I recall it's supposed to flow air out of the fender.

I had to cut my windshield frame as well. Probably close to 1/2" on both sides. I used some of the plastic edge stripping to give it a clean look. Also make sure you have enough room between the door and windshield frame to fit the brackets for the side mirrors.

I hope with the new front and top that pieces will start to work a little better from the get go. Im going to start with all new pieces including the hood. I will post detailed pics when I get the retrofit kit next week.

Does the new nose come with a new hood?

Insurance Guy....
I had the same alignment issues but after looking at it alot and moving it around alot and after a few beers, it adjusted into place.
Also keep in mind you can add a spacer to raise the back corner of the front fenders giving a bit more space....
And, the front bumper on mine ended up about an inch lower than the front frame, pulling the back corners of the fender slightly forward.
You want the lowest part of the front bumper leading edge an inch lower than the underside of the car.
Keep playing.. it will all come together.

Insurance Guy. I'm looking at your picture of the door/fender gap. How much material do you have where the rear edge of the fender turns in 90 degrees ? What is the distance from that 90 degree turn to the crease where the door starts to turn in ? Right now on my car where the rear of the front door turns in I have between 1" and 3/4"
Thanks
Dave

I've just started working on the body - not even adding doors yet and have trimmed the new fender pieces as pictured below. I also took about 1/4" off the bottom of the windshield surround on each side in this location. Not sure if this will be enough overall but it certainly improved things at this stage. I'd love to see some more pictures of the trimming that took place at this location from other builders.

My first round of trimming:
