So after a 3 year build and quite a while of searching for a painter for my MK4, I opted on a short 'cough' 6 hour drive to Albany Oregon.

This is not this painters first rodeo with F5's (think Farrah Snook and SoFast Racing).. those are some of this gentleman's paint work.. including the Bonneville Salt Flat coupe many have seen at Huntington Beach and now back in Mass at F5 world headquarters...

Hauled the car down last Friday. A BIG THANKS Tony Nadalin (one of the Challenge Car racers here and also an 818 builder) for the use of his Serpent Express snake hauler as well as another truly good friend of mine who pulled the trailer for me with his big Toyota Truck.

So I had ground the seams, did the initial body alignment, all cutouts, and some custom tweaks, and now have turned it over to a professional to make me proud.

Here are the first photos where he has started to fit the doors.

Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Yes, I am certainly excited. Mr. C says he will be sending me some more photos tomorrow. I hate to say it, but its kind of nice having the car away at the spa, as when it's here it's a very strong magnet.
This year might have a Christmas Tree up before Christmas ;)

see you this summer Joe.

stay tuned

Tweaking the front- what's missing ??

Jeff L. - are you flush mounting your signals?

Chris

Yup. I dun did it... ground them off and filled in with layers of FG.. got them flush and then left it up to the painter to fine tune them..

First coat of primer on the body.

I guess I better get serious about what color I want it painted... teetering back and forth on a few red color codes..... :D

He used Upol Raptor - He said he loves the way it applies and performs.

So I just received word that the car will be ready for pick up this Saturday.

We decided to hold off on painting the side vents. He said if I want to do it later just to send them down and he will take care of it.

I asked him NOT to send me any photos.

Heading down on Saturday ( 6 hours one way from my place) and going to try and do a down and back.

We are hauling a 65 coupe down to take it's place.

Stay tuned for photos !

Anticipation for the color...

Rotorcraft

Well, got an early start Saturday and headed south about 6:30am

Picked a FF5 Coupe and it's pilot Michael and we made a B line towards Albany Or-

Arrived at Gary's at 12:30 and after driving through down pour after down pour the clouds parted as we arrived.

The color and it's application exceeded my expectations.

The color is one from the 1960's - It is a bit brighter than the Mk4 Gel Coat and a heck of lot shinier .

I would not hesitate to have Gary paint another car.

Special thanks for the loan of the trailer !! again :)

I will be letting it sit for a few weeks before I have to remove the body one more time to finish up.
for now I will just dust it and smile.

This is what it looked like when we arrived after driving through 6 hours of rain storms.

This was the first time the cobra saw sun..

and the last time for Michaels coupe for a few months!

She looks great! I love the red on our cars. It looks terrific.

Please post some more when you get a chance. I'd love to see it in the sun.

Congratulations on the milestone.

Looks great! I too am planning on solid red.

Question: looking at the doors and hood hanging when they were primed. Why was there a wire hanging down? Is it for grounding?

Congrats on the purty car.

Congrats on the purty car.

I'm not sure on the wire.. I figured it was to keep them from moving while being sprayed...

Thanks!

Thanks Dave. unfortunately we are out of the country this time for HB.. We had a great time last year I am sure we will be back at some point, although I am not sure about getting the car down that far south.

I really like the look of the rear shelf mod with the custom version of the Breeze SS roll bar Mark helped me with..

I will post some better photos as I get her all back together.
