Hi all:
I've been lurking here for a while, mostly in the 818 forums. But I have to admit that my dream is to build a roadster at some point. I'm saving and planning. It'll be a while yet. But out of curiosity, I thought I'd introduce myself to see if there are any other owners and builders in the area. I met a few folks with some really nice roadsters at the last Cars and Coffee event in November. They told me there isn't a local club, unfortunately. But there are a few cars around. I haven't seen an 818 in person, yet. But I'd really like to.
For my part, I've loved cars all my life. I had a 1998 Mustang Cobra from new until 2012, when it got hit and totaled. It had a full road-race suspension, sub-frame connectors, custom exhaust, and a few other mods, all done by me (except the welding). I worked on restoring a Sunbeam Tiger clone for many years, but got overwhelmed and gave up. My education is in Engineering. I'd say I'm an avid repairer, customizer. But I don't have the wherewithal to do a full restoration of an old car. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that building a FF car would suit me since everything is new (or close), and there are instructions and a great support community!
Currently I drive a lowered, customized Expedition, lol. But I miss having a performance car. I'm looking forward to learning a ton, and contributing a little where I can.
Regards,
John.
