View Full Version : Engine compartment bracing Idea

I tried to set the engine on the chassis to store it for the winter to keep it out of the weather. The 2 upper "V" braces are in the way. Has anyone thought of cutting these off and making them a bolt in brace? Being able to remove these would make engine install / removal alt easier.

When I installed my motor I was thinking the same thing. I am just not sure if that a "good idea" however the new Ford motor I guess requires them to be cut off I believe.

IMO, the engine isn't difficult enough to install, to justify modifying an area that has significant impact on structural strength and also supports the uprights for the rollbar.

Agreed, it slides right in with a $75 engine crane and can be done alone... easier than 1/2 the engines that I've pulled and replaced

Yep. Nice to have air where the trans tunnel belongs!

Maybe he is trying to put engine in with the exhaust manifold installed.
That is hard.

If I were to redesign anything. I would make the motor mount brackets removable.
Keep them mounted to the engine.
Then bolt the brackets to the bottom frame member after installation.
That way motor and exhaust could go in as one piece.

I did not see it as difficult with an engine hoist, however just was an extra annoyance I guess. I will keep it for safety just wish there was some kind of removable alternative, but I really can't think of how that would ever work safely. Also owning a coupe all this stuff just seems like it is going to be a bit of a pain in the butt to deal with. I want to be able to do some basic work on the car without having to take the coupe top off every time. I am hoping I can at the very least fill the oil and check oil level...

I actually am not really sure how people plan to ever take the top off once all the glass and stuff is installed. It is going to be a top, 2 rear windows, front window, and 2 sides. The top is going to weigh a decent amount. The top will take up a garage spot alone, and if you’re like me you have one stall for this car, so I'm not sure if we are just going to need to make some kind of a hoist system to raise it up kind like jeep people do or what.

it's easier with a hoist that has 4 casters. If it's like the one I borrowed with 2 casters and two straight it's a bigger pain.

I can install the engine by myself in 2 minutes. All you need to do is position it to the on side a little and it falls in place.
