Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a BIG mercury guy. I love mercs. I have a 1983 Capri, 1969 Monterey convertible, and a 1978 Mercury Zephyr boxtop.

Ever since I saw the Daytona coupe I have wanted one. I am saving parts and $$$ for building a coupe.

Here is the stuff I have squired away from junkyards.
1990 Cougar IRS. MN12 Fairly good shape. Disc brakes are OK.
1990 Cougar AOD. Equipped for collum shift
1987 Ford mustang floor shifter asembally, Also an AOD car, but there were metal chunks in the pan, so I just lifted the shifter and linkage (Including TV)
1973 Torino Ford 335 Cleveland D0AE-L short block. Unfortunately the heads were missing by the time I found the car sitting in a junkyard
D5AE-A2A 351M heads. These are from a car, but not sure which. Junkyard had them pulled and on a shelf.
Two drive shafts. One from the 1987 mustang, and one from the 1990 cougar.

Ohh and I have a shelf with various Holley 4150 types LOL, who doesn't.

Thats enough for now.
The AOD I have apart in a million bits getting rebuilt with a monster kit, the IRS is next. I probably need to buy the axle upgrade kit. and change the ring gear to a 3.73. I will see what shape the ford Traction lock is in.
Yeah I know it's an AOD. Sorry, never could get the knack of a manual, and it's harder to find Mercs with manual transmissions anyway. I have AODs in the Zephyr and the Capri, the mega merc has a C6

Engine wise. Here is the plan.
The small block has been to the machine shop and back and is fine. Didn't need any work. I got lucky and none of the journals needed polished, and it didn't even need a overbore. I have the cam removed as I will be replacing it with something mild aftermarket.
I will send the 351M smogger heads to have them milled down, and then rebuild the rockers, springs, and valves with new peformance parts.

I need to know what parts I can pull off Mustangs for the front that will fit the FFR kit, Spindles, brakes, etc. I will be getting the base kit. It's common to find SN95 and Fox mustangs. S197 not so much, and when you do, they are CRASHED and BASHED.

Anyway, this looks like a great forum with a lot of info.

Welcome!

The preferred OEM Mustang spindles are from 1994 and 1995 with the doglegged steering arm. 1996 up are slightly wider and have a straight steering arm which creates a less favorable bump steer geometry. For OEM brakes the 1999 and later 2 piston PBR calipers would be a good choice; they will fit the '94/'95 single piston style spindles with some minor grinding for caliper mounting bracket clearance.

Awesome thanks, will watch for a 94 or 95 and a 99

I forgot that I got the power rack steering and fuel tank from the 87 mustang.

I think you might find by the time you buy your kit, the IRS stuff will be obsolete. FFR is changing to the 2015 mustang IRS. Not sure if they will continue to make the old one.

Ohh hmm, okay. I only have 60 bucks into the MN12 cougar IRS. And I can probably resell it for that.

Hopefully I can hit some salvage yards this weekend. Thanks for the pointers.

I plan to do the Coupe up as a fantasy mercury. I know, Shelby never did anything with Mercury stuff. But there was a Dan Gurney edition cougar.

I'm not positive but I think FF said they where going to continue to support the T-bird style IRS for quite some time.
