battery for Breeze front mount kit

I thought I could get an Optima battery to fit the Breeze front mounting box, but my engine guy says no redtop available that size, and a yellow top one that fits only has 400 CA.
Has anybody used their battery kit? If so, what battery did you use?

I have used the yellow top with no adverse affects. Unless your trying to start a stubborn carbed big block, you should be ok.

Mike do you remember exactly which one it was? I quickly measured the box and they all seemed a fraction bigger.

Breeze used to recommend the 51R model (R stands for reversed terminal position) which in my car at least, left the positive terminal a little close to the x-frame for my comfort since I'd already chosen to run my front brake line cross over on the rear side of the x-frame. By using the model 51, the positive terminal is in a much more wide open working area. It's a small thing but for clumsy, wrench-dropping guys like me, it's nice to have the added safety margin. It also made routing the positive cable run to the starter relay simpler.

My car is EFI but it is almost 400 c.i. and nearly 10:1 compression ratio. The little Optima Has always started the car like a champ under all conditions, hot or cold.

Just looked mine up. Optima Batteries 8071-167 D51 YellowTop Dual Purpose Battery. Same as cancuk1 posted. It's rated at 450 cold cranking amps. It starts my relatively high compression 347 with ease. Keep in mind we typically aren't operating these things in the kinds of temps were cold cranking amps go way down. Here it is installed in the Breeze battery box, obviously before the engine was in and build completed. Fits perfectly.

I use a 51-DLG Duralast 500 CCA from Autozone for my Breeze front mount kit. My thoughts on this is that over the years, everyone has caught up to Optima.

I went with Advance Auto's AUTOCRAFT GOLD 51R-2, cold crank 0 degrees-500 amps; 32 degrees-625 amps. Fits and works great, and was $140. Good luck! Ed

One thing to check when reading a chart to see if a battery will fit is to check where the dimensions are taken from. If they are taken from the top of the battery they will be larger than the bottom of the battery where it needs to fit into the battery box.

Not to be a slappy for Optima batteries, but the yellow top some have used including the one I pictured is a deep cycle battery. So maybe not a fair comparison to the Advance and Autozone regular versions. I don't know that it's really necessary, but the yellow top seems to handle the winter hibernation period pretty well. They're just over $150 on Amazon, so not a big price difference. About to order another one for my newest build.
