I slid the upper steering shaft into the main part and with the steering wheel on there is a small amount of free play. Is that normal?

Did you install the belleville washers? If not that will allow freeplay.

I am pretty sure these are covered in the manual.

They are in the same zip lock as the steering wheel hub mounting bolt.

I really think the manual will answer most questions on anything except modifications. I built two cars with nothing but the manual. Think I read it at least twice before I ever touched the car.

Also check for play between the wheel and the column. Remove the bolt that attaches the steering wheel to the column and look for play there...if you find it there, I'll give you the solution:confused:.

Its also a good plan to tighten all the fasteners (allen key) on the U-joints & Loctite them. They can introduce some slop in the wheel.
