ran into an issue last night cutting the hood opening for the scoop. Laid it out per manual 1 1/2 inside the sides and rear and 4" off the front. Measured back 19" from front for placement of scoop, found the scoop would not cover the opening in the rear. Had to move it back an additional inch to cover opening entirely and have meat to rivet into. Has anyone else seen this or did i screw up on the layout?

This has been identified in previous threads; place/position and drill-cleco for placement. Use the rivet holes for reference to cut out the relief opening.

I guess I never realized that the manual gave dimensions for cutout and placement...

Mister7, was your problem with the back corners? Square cuts or too small of a radius would leave them uncovered (as you can see in the photo below showing how I cut them I use a 3 1/2" hole saw for the corners). I make the same cut for both the fiberglass or ABS scoops but trim back the flange to ~5/8" on the 'glass ones:

This photo shows the fastener holes which should give you a pretty good idea of where the flange sits (as I recall this car had a 'glass scoop):

And another with it in place:

Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff, I used a 2" hole saw in the corners, 3 1/2" would have been a better choice. FYI the book shows 4" back in the front. Luckily I have enough room to just slide the scoop back to cover the corners.

Thanks

Tom

Also remember that fiber glass is really easy to add material to if needed. So, you don't have to live with it if you are not happy where it needs to sit.
