Wiring issue 1989-92 302 mass air. Can't seem to get spark message through computer to coil? Originally Donor vender sent harness for non mass air engine with my mass air engine. Has now sent different engine (only) harness w/computer. At least now I have a mass air connector. Any ideas? Really need retired Mustang mechanic familiar with all emission stuff that can be removed and which are important to get fired up. Thanks for any help. Bob

Hi Bob,

You didn't mention to what extent your system is "stock". Are you running a completely stock EFI system? If so can you post some pics to show what you have? I'm assuming it's a OEM wiring harness so if it is, you should be sure the "salt and pepper" connectors on the engine harness are mating well with the body harness. That can be a source of electrical issues if you read the Stang forum. How is it you decided you were not getting output to your coil (you mean 12 volts or firing output from the ECU)? If the vendor sent you parts from different donors make sure you have the stuff that matches. Is it a stock Ford MAF? You must have an MAF and it must be the correct one for your harness. There are a few different wiring configurations. Your MAF and injectors must match for correct air flow calibration (19 lb injectors with stock MAF). It should be a TFI (Thin Film Ignition) distributor so you need to make sure your spout plug is installed in a connector near your distributor. Sometimes that is missing. I don't have a stock engine harness. Mine is a Summit after market one that is very well designed. If you go on line and get the EFI harness instructions for it (Summit Racing EFI Harness for Ford SUM-890120), it will show you in straight forward language how each component/ sensor works, images of them, and how to trouble shoot. It is similar enough to the stock system to be very helpful.

I'm sure you can find the bugs that are causing you problems,

Good luck,

WEK.

Edit: I forgot to mention that you may be barking up the wrong tree so to speak by expecting help from FFR for this sort of issue. They normally address specific kit issues, specs, and clarifications about the related components. I'm not saying they don't know about this stuff but it is not what they normally do. You will get much more help from the forum members especially if you give more details, picss and some very specific descriptions. For instance, you could have a dead sensor or one that is out of calibration so bad it won't communicate with the ECU as it should (TPS). The operative word is details.
