I am wondering if my EFi module can mount in the passenger footwell space on the right? Not clear in the manual, but is there an aluminum panel for this area?
I figured this location would be more accessible than mounting behind the dash.

A concern is the elements affecting it or knee space. I am using a Pro-M Racing computer and mounted it to the very top of the passenger footbox. Good access to plug in a laptop/computer to tune or read engine codes and it is fairly weatherproof.

My concern would be the safety of the PCM from weather. I have mine above the 2x2 cross member behind the dash. Most people who mount them in this location find it difficult to install a glove box or at least a full depth one. I've been caught in the rain a couple of times and both times I was surprised how little water got in the **** pit. However, there was leakage from the areas of the two wind screen frame arms. I suppose you could make them water proof but it would require a gasket or lots of sealant. The area you describe might be subject to leaking from above. Mine is an aftermarket EFI harness from Summit so it has a black box that I mounted on the 2x2 post in front for under the dash access. It also has the OBDI port and fuel pump cutoff device. It just seems to be the most logical place. As far as access, you should plan on some means of removing the dash for future changes or issues. If you do place your computer in the area on the side of the PFB, I would incase it in an aluminum or fiberglass case that fits the area and make it as waterproof as possible.

Note: the type of computer could have a lot to do with this decision. The ECC-IV doesn't make it easy (pretty big case).

Good luck,

WEK.

So the side of the PFB will have an aluminum panel, but you are saying it can get wet between that and the fiberglass body?

I installed the computer under the passenger side footbox. No problem with clearance for passengers knees, although I would have preferred to mount it on the outside vertical footbox panel, but the Ron Francis wiring harness wasn't long enough.

The outside vertical footbox panel is where I was hoping, but the above posts are saying it could be an issue with water ingress. I do like the idea of a glass fiber shroud if I put in this location.

I mounted mine on the outside wall like you mention. I got caught on wet road once. That area stayed dry (without all the trim and sealer in place, that may have been the only dry area!).

I used that area, but inside the footbox......the right vertical side of the passenger footbox, sitting above the 2" tubing. Then I made a wooden, carpeted panel (with ventilation) to cover it. No problems, no moisture issues.

On the road ~ 4 years.

I wasn't clear. That's where mine is. Inside the footbox on the outside wall.
