Was going to post in the donor section, but it doesn't seem to generate a lot of traffic.

I want to poll the owners/builders on collecting parts.
We are sold on the 818C, so creature comforts ( heat/air ) are planned.
I am talking to a few yards here in the area and provided them the parts list.
A few of the guys have said some of the stuff ( brakes, spindles, steering column & rack ) are interchangeable( legacy/outback/Imp )
I can pull a body wire harness connections myself, as we are going new ( painless, and a megasquirt - having worked with both )

What I am looking for is opinions on what to get - what works best ?

I picked up an EJ207 and 5sp phase 2 trans ( 4.44 ratio). The engine came complete with fuse box/computer/ harness -minus the intercooler.
We are in the process of break down to replace rings, bearings, gaskets. There is no play in turbos shaft.
This motor came with air conditioning intact, can it be used ?

I have been told to pick up the 06 steering rack, and any wrx brakes. Also was told to match the master cylinder to the brakes ( from the same vehicle )

After replacing all but the block and rear end on my MKII build, I am forgoing a 1 car donor.
Buying new tie rods, bushings, flex brake lines, aluminum LCAs, toe links seems obvious.

On the rear trailing arms and control arms ? I have seen new upgrades that seem reasonable in cost, are they worth it ?
Any info on a STI gauge cluster ? have seen the for sale fairly cheap, but none have the harness with them.

All other parts (cooling, body, interior) were quoted pretty cheap.
This is going to be a street car, and doubt it would see any track time - other than the occasional 1/8 mile local strip.
After reading numerous threads, I am more knowledgeable and confused at the same time ?

What would you guys suggest when collecting ?

Thanks for your help, be safe.
Eric.

I am doing a similar thing of parting the car together using my local u-pull it yards, ebay, rockauto, and Craigslist. IDK who is running A/C,power steering, heat, and ABS. I plan to not run any of those though except maybe heater if i do i will look into electrical heaters. As for the rest of the parts look at the list in the documentation here. https://www.factoryfive.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/818-Manual-Disassembly.pdf

Then find out using this forum and Nasioc if the parts fits 02+ wrx. You will find all your answers there. Interchangeable parts between other Subaru models go onto the OEM sites look at the part number and find out if its listed and used in any other car. For example: the front hubs on a WRX are the same as an impreza, legacy, forester, and baja. So I take that knowledge go to my local junk yard and look for said car that might have a front hub from that acceptable year. Pulling a wireharness from the junk yard if its super cheap do it, mine was charging $200 plus all the hours i had to put in to pull it. I ended up just paying $300 on ebay for a complete and pulled harness. Brakes, bushings, hydraulic parts, are cheap insurance to just buy them new from rockauto. No idea when you use used parts like that how long they will last. I have just about everything I need and I'm far lower in price then buying a donor but I have also spent countless hours looking for parts. I also am using an ej207. But its a clean running motor that I didn't feel would be worth rebuilding tell it blows.

Thanks Red, the rebuild is for piece of mind as it has 44K on it, want to clean it up as best as possible.

Eric, regarding the sti cluster, if you can find a cheap USDM one I'd say go for it. I'm using an 06 sti cluster with an 02 wrx wiring harness and had it reflashed to zero mileage:
45435
The wiring for the clusters is nearly identical between most model year imprezas. There are also JDM sti clusters that are cheaper since they are in km/hr. WRX clusters are the cheapest and easiest to reflash yourself (to zero mileage).

My motor came with a JDM STI EJ207 cluster I still don't know if i will keep it or not. I think it will depend on if my state will make me flash or keep the km off the cluster. Since I'm not rebuilding the motor I'm hoping to keep the miles to match my motor. I would just get what ever cluster is cheapest. I would rather have a MPH cluster over km during inspections though. As stated early STI clusters should all hook up fine. I'M not sure when they stopped being supported.

I wish we could use the FRS cluster i think its the best looking cluster out there right now.

I have a 04 WRX cluster, ignition switch(with key) and light and turn signal switches that I don't need.

http://opposedforces.com/parts/

You can look up parts with diagrams. Click on a part number and it will tell you every single car it came on.

I will take you up on that. a few less parts I need to scrounge !

Thanks Craig ! a wealth of knowledge you are.
