Trying to locate the frame # on a Mk1.

+On my MKII, the frame # was welded into one of the 4" tubes (i.e. the # was applied with weld wire). Get the car on jack stands or a lift and look all around the tubes.

The registration process is different state to state. Some are down right difficult and tedious while some are simple. What state are you trying to register? Do you have the Certificate of Origin or a copy? If it's been registered somewhere else by another party do you have that documentation? Any of the above will get you started at the DMV. In AZ they require proof of purchase for the kit, and major components to assure them you have not included stolen parts in your build. I think all states do a similar process to track and control movement of stolen auto parts. There is a thread on the forum that gets specific about each state registration process, also. Just because you have all your correct documentation doesn't mean you won't hit a few "road blocks" in the process. If the resident expert is on duty the day you come in, you will probably go through cleanly. However, not all DMV employees are familiar with the rather rare process we have to participate in. So you may here something like, "I'll have to check with my supervisor" or there may be a huddle of employees discussing your papers before all is said and done. Don't get discouraged, it just happens.
