View Full Version : 4 Gauge battery wire?

For those of you who stuck with the FFR provided 4 gauge battery wire, are you happy with the results or is there too much voltage drop?

Also, I'm not crazy about having the battery wire routed over the engine; seems risky. The FFR provided cable is too short to route any differently though. Also, has anyone run a (similarly sized) ground wire all the way back to the rear of the frame or did you just ground to the front of the frame and call it good?

Battery connection / cable size / wire grounding location is as hotly debated on the internets as engine oil.

The FFR 4 gauge wire seems fine. I wrapped it with the starter solenoid wire (yellow) and wrapped that with the plastic corrugated loom where it goes over the engine and through the firewall. My battery is grounded to the frame and starter is grounded to the frame. Everything starts fine, once I switched to a stock size battery.

Thanks for the input. Also, I got the hose you sent me installed last night. Thanks again!

The red four gauge wire works perfectly in Maryland. The Subaru engine starts immediately, so there is little time for overheating. I have the minimum drain on the electrical system--fuel pump, computer, and emission air pump--so I am not concerned in this department. No big audio amp in my build!

You'll be fine with the supplied FFR wire. I however over killed it by running a longer 2 awg power and ground lines back to the engine. I didn't like how short the FFR wire was. I also connected the battery to the chassis with a short 6 awg wire.
