View Full Version : Wire braids and wraps

Trying to decide what to wrap my harness in after I've made all the wiring changes I want to.

Split loom braids like Painless Product's PowerBraid get great reviews and have the right temp rating. But because they are porous, I wonder how well they will really protect wires over time from moisture, UV, and heat degradation? Inside the cabin, it's no big deal but in the front of the car and in the engine compartment, I'm wondering if I shouldn't use something else like the common corrugated plastic stuff that the factory uses and then wraps with electrical tape. I'm sure I will be detailing the engine and radiator area of the car fairly often which means spraying with degreaser and hosing off with water. Curious as to how powerbraid will work in that situation.

Also curious to see if anyone prefers the newer "classic braid" over the PowerBraid style. I know you can get braided split loom cheaper from other companies but many of them don't provide temperature ratings.

Thanks for any input.
