Did lots of work this weekend.

Two suggestions
Look at the inside tab welds on those upper a arms at the chassis. You might need to trim one or more of those bushings where their shoulder rubs too hard on the frame welds. If the A-arm won't droop back down under it's own weight when you lift it and let go it needs more work IMO. Some have ground the welds for clearance but that is risky so I prefer to clearance the shoulder of the bushing for about 1/4 circle so it rotates without binding.

The body mold is not the same side to side and several of us have agreed that a full length 1/4" spacer under the rocker on the pass side will level the cowl area. Do that spacer BEFORE trimming the top of the firewall so you don't trim too much off of it. If you look at a lot of the finished 33's from the front they look wonky. The combo of the cowl too low on the passenger side and the rad shell/Grille bars leaning to the drivers side makes for a screwy look.

I have been in a holding pattern for the last couple of weeks. The engine builder found some problems with my rebuild but all I had to do is throw money at it. I got it back yesterday and now back to work.

That 'rod sounds awesome! Do you have a go-car video yet? Go-carting is a huge milestone, and can really re-energize the build.

Congrats!

Hi David I am hoping to take it out tomorrow if the weather holds out they are forecasting snow. It will make doing donuts interesting but I'm afraid that I will get it stuck.

wrp I used the factory exhaust but I'm regretting it because my garage is full of fiberglass from inside the mufflers.

It's so strange how some people have a huge problem with the factory mufflers spewing fiberglass all over the place - and others do not. When I started mine for the first time, I coughed a bit from the fine particles (now where is the phone number for that television attorney that specializes in asbestos/fiberglass lung problems?) - but there was nothing you could see in the air. Since then, they have been perfect - although I have only driven it a few times. No fiberglass and it sounds completely awesome - loud enough, but not too loud.

Had to take the week off of the build. I cut the end of my finger off drilling a piece of metal. Just as the bit came though the back side of the stock and it spun around and clipped my finger. The worst part is it was my middle finger. Back to work on the build this weekend. Every car has to have cup holders!

Do you have a color picked out yet?

How does she drive?

I have picked a colour I am going with candy root beer over silver. I had a good conversation with Dave Smith when I purchased the kit and he sujested to drive the car for a season then paint it. This is the best drive I have ever had. It's like it's on tracks. I went with a lumpy cam and it sounds awesome. I am almost 6 months from the start of the build and I'm down the road.

Dave,

Hello, my name is Bruce Smith, and I've been working on my '33 for a couple years now. Watched your video and appreciated that great "turn-around" at the end of your street! If you don't mind I have a question about the shifter I saw in one of the pics you posted concerning the console. It looks like you are using a B&M "Hammer" shifter, and I am considering using the same on my Ford 4R70W auto. I was wondering what your opinion is of the quality and "use-ability" of that unit.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Bruce

Niagara Dave

Hi Bruce I like the shifter. It was a good price and it works great. It is a little stiff to change gears. I tied in the neutral safety switch to the clutch safety switch in the wiring under the dash. I also ran a wire for reverse light that I am going to instal on the car. I also reinforced the tunnel with some fender washers. If you have any questions PM me.

I was always afraid that I would forget to tighten a nut or screw and something would go terribly wrong on a drive. This came true I forgot to tighten the nut that holds the steering wheel on. I noticed the wheel was loose and when I got home it was holding on by a couple of threads. I could not help but think of of Taladaga race this spring and Dale Jr.

Dave,
Did you have any trouble fitting Eric's hitch with your 4 link?
Reason I ask is Eric said he wasn't sure it would fit with the 4 link & I also have a 4 link & am planning on a Hitch.

thanks,
Nevin

Niagara Dave

Hi Nevin
If you look at the photo with the 2x4 you can see the saddle connection has a space of 3/4 inch. My plan is to cut off the saddle and put a 3/4 inch spacer that will run the full width of the hitch. My plan is i can bolt the saddle and use a carriage bolt to attach the hitch to the frame via the 3/4 spacer.i also made the receiver to long and it sticks out past the fiberglass. I hope to have it fixed by Friday. I will post more photos. Hope this helps.

Hello everyone the weather is getting better so I am sure you are all itching to get out. I had a problem with clearance of the engine to the hood. I have always admired the ZR1 Corvette. I have decided to cut the hood of the hot rod and insert the ZR1 hood window. This is the first step.
