I can't seem to figure out how the push pull turn part of the headlight switch is retained in the switch body. It just pulls out.
Can someone help?
Thanks!

There is a small button - I think on the bottom - that should act as the release. Pushing the knob / skewer in until it clicks past that should work. If not, maybe the release button is not springing back out to hold the skewer in place.

Thanks gumball. Just gave it another go and doesn't stay in, no matter how hard I push!
Phoned FFR and they are sending another. Great customer service.

I bought a similar style headlight switch from an auto parts store. Mine has the opposite problem. Won't come back out! If I need to remove it from the dash, I have to take the knob off, as the skewer is never coming back out of that thing! :)

Those things can be a little temperamental. When you push it in, it should go to the end of its travel and you should feel it click into place. To remove, pull the switch all the way out, then hold the button down and it should come the rest of the way out. You may have to wiggle it a little, with the button down, for it to release. The common mistake people make is they don't pull it all the way out before pushing the button.
If you get tired of messing with it, I've found an actual branded ACDelco D1588 is a little better quality than the generic part FF supplies. Most parts stores carry them, or if you can wait a few days, less that $20 from Amazon.

I have taken them apart more than once to fix them. Seems that if the don't go in straight sometimes they won't catch.
