I purchased an unfinished MK and was told it was a MKIII. It is FFR #4306. Where do I find the chassis serial number? It is not in front of the driver on the main cross bar.

How do I tell if the IRS is Pin Drive width or not?

Thanks in advance.

Mine is on the left of the steering wheel on the main cross tube.

On earlier cars it is welded inside the 2X3 chassis tube behind the driver's seat; you have to remove the tire to see it. I think all Mk3 and later have it stamped on the crosstube just left of the steering wheel as mentioned. I am not sure of the S/N that began Mk3 production but a quick indicator to differentiate a 3 from a Mk2 is the under door side impact "X" tubing which is not present on the earlier cars..

The Pin drive IRS arms look different from the standard width. These pictures should help.

The serial number is welded inside of the 2"x3" tube behind the driver seat on the older models like Jeff said. You have to take the driver rear wheel off to see inside the tube.

Brian,
Thank you. Inside the tube....that should help. Thanks for the IRS pictures, that makes it obvious. You are the man!
