Matt A. posted some great IR images of his 818. Now that IR cameras can be had very inexpensively I thought it would be good to start a thread where people posted images that may be useful as vents or other modifications are made. These are after a casual 30 minute cruise from work to home. I provided two images of low and high temperature zones to get an idea of the FCLUT heat range since the current FLIR app autoscales everything to get maximum color range.

Tamra was right, the center console heats up.
And the right hump, G that one takes the load from the turbo hey. Hopefully I can fit a small fan in there, using Craig's louvers of course.

Your console and dash are heating because the radiator airflow isn't routed well out of the hood vents. I'm blocking off the front of the battery box area and sealing it to the hood. I'm also using Craig's larger louvers

It would be an interesting heater. Block off the battery area and make a movable vent to duct air into the cabin during cold weather.

I'll have to check if our dash gets warm. I didn't notice anything up there, but then again I can't reach it in the harness anyway :) The center console through the shifter tunnel is definitely coming from the engine bay for us - I can practically feel the draft coming through the unsealed hole by the shifter. Plus the DMV made us fully seal our front firewall from the harmful radiator fumes, so definitely no draft coming through there :)

Great pictures Aero. Those are very helpful! I'd be curious to see the same of Chad's car since he has some vents in some of the "hot spots" that your photos show.

Those are amazing and informative images. Thanks for posting them.

What camera are you using? I really want one.

Not so much a draft Tamra, heat transfer through .040 aluminum, a great transfer material. He does have a draft through the cable holes, mine are gaping openings with the iWire harness. The air flows all around under the hood vs in a laminar manner out through the hood vents. Note also the heat coming off the water tubes running down the sides... not much loss of temp from the 200 + degree water right into the cabin along the sides and at those corners behind the tires etc... There are a ton of opportunities for some heat control etc... I imagine that my FatMat has some effect too with a 1/8 inch layer of rubber and the foil on top.

Radiator fumes? Is that a thing? Or is this part of your DMV inspector's nuttiness?

We are from the government and here to help... It is a roadster with no top! LOL ;-)

Their nuttiness lol. They never even looked at the rear (real) firewall, but they were absurdly picky over our front firewall. I think they're used to having engines in the front. They made us put silicone on every seam. They also started to get upset when they could shine a flashlight and see some light coming through the wheel well area up near the top. That's when we told them what Dan just said - "it's a roadster with no top!" and they finally dropped it. Such ridiculousness lol

You could probably get a lot of the donor parts from an old air-cooled veedub!

The camera I used is the new Flir One. http://www.flir.com/flirone/ $250 for iOS or Android.

My front firewall is very well sealed, but this is a good idea. There is a small gap between my windshield and hood for some air to release, but ideally it would all get directed up through the vent holes in the hood.

Thanks. I concur that a huge amount of heat comes through the rear firewall hole for the harness/e-brake cables. I can also feel this flowing into the cabin and likely filling up the center console. I wouldn't mind sealing this up, but more importantly I would like to get the rear engine area better vented to the low pressure zone behind the car.

Given the heat issues of the roadster, these issues for the coupe might even be worse. Just spitballing here, but replacing the quarter windows with scoops and the rear glass with louvers could go a long way to manage the heat.
