I used Michael Everson's method for mounting the vent mesh and trim--epoxy screws to the mesh and silicone the trim to the mesh--for most of the vents. They look nice and are easily removable so the car can be disassembled for painting.

For the side vents, I thought that, from a side view, the edge of the mesh would be visible. On the front and rear hoods, the vents are recessed so that the edges of the mesh are not easily seem.

My variation was to drill 1/8" holes into the aluminum trim and then through the body. I then installed the mesh from behind, and this required a little fiddling since the mesh holes did not always align with the holes I drilled. Countersinking and black screws helped.
