Had a GREAT weekend testing out the new setup on the AEM 818R. Really wonderful to be able to support my sponsors at a local event!

Ended up having to call it early after the front splitter failed spectacularly, turns out they're only good to about 85mph unless you modify them and add bracing, support, etc. Can't say I'm too happy about wasting $1,000 on two of them but oh well live and learn. Anyone want to buy what we have left? I'll take 1/2 price for both which is a bargain at only $630 with shipping!!!!

Third time is the charm?
Let us know what you do on the front splitter. I have one and have gotten up to 85 a few times. Mine is held up by only 8 fasteners on the front bumper.

I'm going to take the money I should have not wasted and have Zebulon make me a splitter to match my wing. The wing is good to ~400lbs, we've had two guys standing on it, your splitter should be strong enough to balance that, not a cosmetic carbon fiber veneer with some glass thrown under it.

You should get that thing beefed up or braced ASAP unless you never plan on tracking the car. This picture was on my first lap after coming off the banking on turn 3 at PPIR after the hairpin and heading into the carousel, maybe 70mph.

I have been 140mph multiple times. It pays to look at other peoples builds, I have been tracking it since December and could of saved you alot of money. No issues with struts. I have the Generation 2 race splitter (real carbon fiber) not the gen 1 fiberglass made to look carbon fiber.

I also put a couple "L" brackets to attach to the bumper metal support. Again, no issues and I moved mine forward about 2 inches from where you have it. Read other people's threads. It will save you headaches.

I have no doubt that some bracing and support could have prevented this, not the point. It's bold to claim:
Based on wind tunnel testing, this race-version splitter produces a significant amount of additional downforce at speed, and in order to achieve a safe and effective balance, we highly recommend using it in conjunction with our 26095 Road Race Wing. If the race-version splitter is used with no additional rear downforce, your car may exhibit a significant oversteer tendency at higher speeds.
and make no mention of requiring some serious modification to keep a $630 part from disintegrating. It's a flimsy cosmetic part and should be advertised as such. I could sell poster board front splitters for $630 and just tell people they need bracing and additional structure to be functional. Everyone should save their money and spend it on a part actually designed for racing.
Also, when people say lead, follow or get our of the way I'm not one to follow. :D

What a great attitude to have in that last statement.... You must know everything. What do I care, It's not my money being wasted.
"A Flimsy Cosmetic Part". That should of been your first clue on bracing :)

OP - Is the broken splitter pictured the first generation or second? It looks 2nd generation but the rear diffuser looks first. Just want clarification.

I have the Gen 1 rear diffuser. I waited specifically for the Gen 2 front race splitter.

The FFR race splitter (with supports) has been on several cars well over 85mph without issue?

I have never seen a functional splitter without support.

Wonder where you would put the 4 bolts on an 818. Maybe I'll just use a 2lb splitter and 6 bolts.

How do you tell a 1st gen from a 2nd gen?

Solid carbon fiber on 2nd. Carbon fiber over fiberglass for ver1.

I had to make a brace for the middle of my splitter as I found it would bow in the centre and flutter, so much so it would scrape along the road. Strangely this only occurred under heavy braking from high speeds (approx 120+mph) which I gathered was due to the reduction in ground clearance under braking set up an aerodynamic 'harmonic' causing it to flutter and make ground contact. I managed to capture this with a GoPro stuck on the front bumper, then go out for a lap on the track.

Did you get any datalogs of your intake temps, post intercooler? As I recall, you're running a rear mounted air-to-air intercooler?
Thanks!
