View Full Version : Flexible brake lines
I'm confused with the brackets and hardware included with the base kit. There are no instructions on how to install mustang flexible brake lines. There are plenty of instructions on how to install the complete kit S/S flex lines with banjo bolts, crash washers etc. but unfortunately I don't have this. Any advice?

Hi R8er,
I built a roadster from the base kit. It probably hasn't changed that much. I think it makes sense for FFR to give detailed instructions for the components they provide in the complete kit because it is a specific component that they have worked out the details. However, they are relying on the aftermarket vendors to provide those specific instructions for their products. If you go the donor route then you have to document and create the procedures for your re-installation of those components (there are some books that have details on Cobras and individual builds). So you can look for one of those sources to get specific info). I have the PBR front brakes from a 2000 GT so I used the repair manuals recommendations and instructions (pictures as well) for the flex lines and locations for the mounting of the line brackets that mount to the 3/4 tubing on the frame. Those small brackets with the FFR "5" on them were about the only component related to the brake calipers, and lines that I used. When I upgrade mine further to the Brembo Cobra R type calipers, I will probably follow their instructions for that changeover. The only exception is that I want to run my flex lines along the lower control arms instead of how is normally done. One thing you might do is to gather together the main components for the brakes and then get advice from FFR to help if you need it. Personally, I installed the calipers and installed the brake line bracket in the most desirable location allowing for the movement of the wheel and mocked up a rubber line to look for the movement of the line with the wheel and tire in place lock to lock. At that point, there was only the flex line to have fabbed. I also have a great shop in the Phx area (Parker Shop) that does a lot of hydraulic stuff and has a racing background. They will be able to advise or custom fabricate any flex line you need for your brakes with washers or whatever finishing component you can imagine.
I think you will find that this area is one that is a little more involved than some of the other sub processes on the build.
Good luck,
WEK.
I kind of figured this was the case. Thanks for the info!

BTW: what are your plans for the setup? There may be someone who is using a very similar one which could save you some time. They might want to chime in instead of you looking for them. Just a suggestion.
WEK.
4431444315Thanks, my setup is just mustang calipers and rotors, mustang drums in the rear. Everything is brand new however. Willwood master cylinder.
