Because I needed to convert my car to RHD I ordered a bare chassis frame in mid 2011 rather than the powder coated option. During the course of the build I had to grind and linish so many welds, particularly when installing the front upper and lower control arms, mounting the Panhard bar frame and rear control arms to the frame and even just to get the firewall and foot boxes to seat, that the bare frame order was a blessing. It meant a lot of initial assembly and dismantling before the frame was ready for powder coating but I was happy to go this way.
I am following some recent builds where the frame has been powder coated prior to any assembly which makes me think that perhaps FF has refined and improved it's welding techniques?

I'm hoping the same thing. I read some threads where they complained about the welds but haven't heard it mentioned lately. I hope to see first hand when I pick mine up in September! Are you thinking about another build?

I bought the powder coated frame and have had only a few niggles with it. So far very happy with my choice. ..also I am picky but not a perfectionist.

I have #640 and if I were doing a "detailed" build then a significant amount of cleanup would be required. Production welding is hot and fast which results in spatter. There is also places grinding down the weld may be necessary. Also if you are planning significant modification to the frame any then this issue is insignificant. I chose to order mine powder coated and never looked back. After a couple runs I'll have so much road rash the rattle can touch up will be the norm.
