In conversation tonight, I was told the 5 spd Mendeola is rated/guaranteed for
~400 HP.

Is this true? I thought it was more based on Dave's explanation.

What are the options for a higher output engine? I know the Porshe transaxles are
getting rare, so what are the bigger engines mated to?

PM Crash. I was thinking it was rated to 450 for warranty reasons, but he feels that is a conservative number for the box. What is your HP goal?

I'm not too sure what engine's going to end up in this kit. Still considering my SS motor which makes 437 HP to the wheels (500+ at the motor), or I may just get
a used LS1 to freshen up. It's still up in the air whether I'll be buying the GTM with engine included, or even getting a donor C5...so I'm just making sure the transaxle
is not going to be an issue.

Someone please buy my Camaro! :D

Well, if size matters, and in transaxle strength, I would say it does, then the Mendeola has the Porsche G50 covered pretty well. We currently run the S5 in the FFR PDG GTM, which is the race version of the SDR, which is the slightly stronger version of the FFR SDR, but we have seen ZERO issues with strength with this box. Previously we broke 2+ Porsche boxes. Now considering that you will not be on race tires, or at least not for HOURS at a time, and that your HP numbers are close to ours, ~400HP, you should have no issues what so ever.

As I have made clear though, someone that is bound and determined to break a gearbox can do so with 100 HP, and then there are those that can put hundreds of HP through a VW Type 1 with no issues. This is what makes "rating" a gearbox so difficult. It really depends upon the operator as to how much HP can be put through a box safely.

Just for some perspective, for those that are wanting to "Go Big", like 1000 HP+, I do believe Mendeola has the transaxle for you, and the required upgraded drivetrain parts are available from www.myraceshop.com, so there definitely ARE options that are available from Mendeola. You won't like the price, most likely, but hey, if you're building 1000+ HP economy isn't really what you're looking for, right? :)

Side note- I should be stress testing the Mendeola at the 500-600 HP/TQ area, hopefully early to mid next year. ;)
