View Full Version : Needing a new project! Build comments Mk4 vs '33 Hot Rod?

It's been a while now since I finished my Mk4 (which I absolutely love BTW) - and I'm beginning to realize how much I enjoyed the build process of building. And am realizing how much I miss having a project for my "out-in-the-shop" time.

So I'm thinking maybe it's time for a '33 Hot Rod ...

I'd really value comments from any Forum members who have 'hands-on' built both ... a Mk4 and a '33 ... contrasting the two builds. Thinking people like Mike Everson and Gordon Levy ... and probably others.

Vastly different end products I know, but what was similar, easier, more difficult on one vs. the other?

Other general comments about the two builds re: contrast between the two, etc

(NOTE: I Do have access to a '33 HR manual and have begun reviewing it, but will absolutely value 1st hand accounts and experience)

Many thanks

Hi Lynn!
If they don't chime in drop a message to Ron E. "FFinisher" and Henry R. "65 Cobra Dude". Like Mike they've both done multiples and should be able to give you some good insight.

I really liked my 33. I wish I never sold it. Looked cool, handled great and was practical as well. Hardtop, A/C, P/S, ect. MK4 is cool but no glass windows or FFR hardtop. Let your passion drive your choice and enjoy.

The main mechanical build up of the 2 are very similar. Less aluminum to drill on the hot rod. The difference comes in the body fitment. There are (potentially) many more boby panels to fit on the Hotrod. The doors are quite a bit more work as well. I think your experience with the Mark 4 will help a great deal with the Hotrod.

Hey a group trying to help a widow in your area sell her husband's 33. Worth a call for you at least.
