Hey all. I have an R that I plan on streeting eventually, which means I need to keep the windshield mount.

First thing's first; here's the manual's depiction of the big mount that is on my R frame (#230). As you can see, half of the mount is for doors, the other half is for windshield.

As you can see below, I have that mount:

The problem with that mount, other than the weight, is that it hits my door. The S door is open in the front:

And mine is not (yet):

Before I go hacking things to bits, I wanted to run my plan by the fine folks on here to catch any stupid mistakes before I make it. My plan is:

Cut away the half of the steel mount on the frame that's used for doors
Slot the door enough to fit through the remainder of the steel mount for the windshield

Anyone see another way to do this? My doors simply don't fit as is; they hit this mount. I'm thinking this is because I did fenders before door. My logic with that is that I didn't (still don't) care if I have to hack up the doors, but I wanted to unbiasedly get my fenders to fit the "best" way on the frame (considering headlights, rear fender mount, and front hood placement). I didn't want the door becoming my guide and making a worse line anywhere up front that I didn't -have- to have.

That's interesting that the R doors are filled in there. We didn't have to cut the S doors. Do you know what other R guys have done? I imagine you would want it to be filled in somehow (we have an aluminum plate that presses against the metal door bar, which you don't have, and seals the door). it looks to me like cutting the mount will be your only option, but I'm not sure if the R guys have any better solutions, esp considering you want to keep the windshield.

Another thing is, if you are planning on running a windshield, I would get it installed asap. Our windshield pressed our fenders out quite a bit (and we still had to trim the fender corners significantly to get them to fit. The surround might be good enough.

We fit the doors last as well, but the windshield was first. The windshield caused the most problems in the fitment process, I believe.

Windshield before doors, huh? I planned to fit the R windscreen first for my upcoming track day, then fit the street windshield. What you're saying makes sense though and I think I'll have to look into the windshield.

Not sure what others have done. I know -some- R frames didn't come with this mount at all, and some people cut it off. I don't know many people with an R who plan to run (on occasion) a street windshield.

I think the reason your doors aren't filled in is that since mine don't have to rotate, they can stick further forward into the fenders without clearance issues. However, they definitely hit this mount. I should get pictures of how I installed the driver "door" last night to show what I did.
