View Full Version : Will a male or female differential work in all 5 speeds?

I could swear I've seen someone mention this a year ago or so..... I just need to confirm that you can run a male stub or female differential in any of the WRX 5-speed transmissions and that they are fully interchangeable. In other words, if the transmission came with male stubs, can you run a female differential in it and change out your inner CV joints to use the kind with the male stubs on them, and same thing goes for the other way around.

My 05 had male CV's and my new Quaife used stub axles and female CVs. I've been told that the bearings are the same so you can convert both ways. Using the newer style Quaife saves money...

That was my impression too. Thanks Dan.

Do you know if the axle spline count on the inner CVs is different between the male and female CVs?

THe stubs and male inner CV have the same spline.

I swapped from one to the other when I put in obx lsd works fine just need different axels
