Hello everyone.
I need help matching a paint that cannot be imported to the US.
It is BS 381c 105 Oxford blue.
It is for a Non ffr car but any help would be appreciated.
I have had it scanned with a gun and it comes out too light.
The body shop is pulling his hair out trying to match it.
Thanks in advance.

Bob,
You need to take it to another shop, one that knows both how to use a "Color Eye" (newer style scan tool), and knows how to custom mix afterwards to achieve the proper tone/blend. A color eye is used strictly as a starting point, and does not generally offer an exact mix. Also, the newer laser tools offer not one, but two or three alternate mixes judged by percentages on their read out equipment. Your best bet will be to find a local Sherwin Williams Automotive paint dealer (they have the newest color scanning equipment) who can call in their tech rep should they be unable to find a close enough formula in which to custom mix what you need.
The other problem you have is your location, and the fact that California body shops are all using water based paints for their base.........Converting over an older single stage, or even base/clear paint color is time consuming. Make sure you find a shop that has their own paint racks (even my old production shop had over 40K in raw toners on my two racks so I could custom tint whatever I needed to on the spot), if they have to order the paint from their supplier, it's time to seek out a better equipped shop with someone who knows how to tint to match.
Hope you find this helpful.
Sincerely,
Bill S.

For some reason my tired brain thought you were in California. Where out on the Island are you, I can take a look to see who the nearest distributor is.

Call ahead, then bring the car or part of it down so they can take a shot with their new "Color Eye" . Again, you'll still need one of their shops to custom mix the proper paint/tone for the car to get it 100%. Ask the supplier who they would recommend as they know their shops better than anyone else. That shop will suggest a blend in to an adjoining panel (just like a new car refinish job) for a seamless repair.
