Anyone running without the factory gauge cluster but still using the factory ECU? I plan on using a digital dash so I won't need the cluster. Would this cause any errors with the ECU? I picked up my donor a few weeks ago and just started dismantling and selling things I don't need. I have a buyer for the cluster but I want to make sure I won't need it.
Thanks,
Dan

There are a few of us that are running aftermarket clusters. The only thing you'll need to do is jump the two wires that go to the Battery charging light. You'll need to do that in order for the alternator to work properly. Also, depending on your state and if you're going to register for the street, you may need turn signal indicators, high beam indicator, and a parking brake indicator.

The dash alternator light is part of the charge current regulator circuit. You should jumper it with a similar bulb or resistor.

Funny you mentioned that, I'm installing turn signal LEDs today on my dash because with my AIM MXL I keep driving around the race track with my left or right turn signal on. I can't hear it thru my helmet and engine noise. It drives the other racers nuts.....and the turn workers who are trying to figure out if I'm about to pull off the track at their turn station.

Yes, cant hear the turn signal so we just end up leaving it on. I'd like see pictures of how you installed them once your done.

My installation is not on an 818, it's in my LGT racecar. That said all you need is a place to fit two small LED lights. I wired them to my rear turn signal wires. They blink bright enough to be noticed in most any light. $6 each. Available in several colors.

I did this on my Chevy Vega, a super bright led for both turn signals and the high beam indicator. you could not hear anything in that car except the sound of freedom.
