View Full Version : Brake Proportion Valve

I am considering installing a Brake Proportion valve. The primary purpose is for burnouts. Has anyone installed one? And can you share pictures, experience and suggested parts?

Typically a proportioning valve is a set-it-and-forget-it type of valve. You will probably be better off with a Line Lock on the front circuit so that you can enable and disable quickly. If you find out that you actually need a proportioning valve, then you can install that also. When I installed my braking system, I removed the donor fixed proportioning valve and installed an adjustable proportioning valve but found out I didn't need it and so I run it wide open. All tire/brake combinations are different, so it takes a little trial and error to get yours right. My Mark IV has the braking system from an 04 Mach1 (13" front with 2 piston PBR and 11.65" rear with single piston plus hydroboost power putting 1800 psi at the calipers). With this combination, the fronts always lock up first and the car stops in a straight line even at lockup. If anything, I could use a little more rear brake, but that's for another day.

Just a little different perspective: I have a very similar system as above from a 2000 GT. I used Wilwood pedal/MC but it was the older version with 2 3/4 inch MCs. When I had one MC to fail, I changed to the newer version so the 3/4 is for front brakes and a 7/8 inch one is used for the rear. I haven't gotten a chance to go through the panic stop exercises to do real world testing yet. I'm expecting that the as is performance will be more balanced than with the 2 3/4 MC system. However, I still have the proportioning valve in place for the rear system just in case.
