I recall seeing someone had welded a bung onto their gas tank (hindsight did this) and someone also welded a bung to the fuel filler neck to allow it to vent while filling up. I can't find these photos. Does anyone recall who it was?

It was the FFR cars link. No wonder I couldn't find it on this site. Thanks!

Hey Mechie, looks like you already got your answer. I did the tank-side of the mod, but not the fuel filler side. I will probably do the fuel filler side within the next couple of weeks. I'll be sure to post pics on my build thread. It will be my first time welding tubing so should be interesting. I got Y-splitter for my argon tank that will allow me to back-purge the tubing but not sure if that's going to work very well due to how short the tubing is. I think the tape used to seal the back purge hose is going to melt too fast.

I was planning on fitting the filler side drilling through the black FFR hard rubber tubing and use somekind of fuel resistant glue or caulk to keep it tight in place.

Did anyone else have to mount their fuel filter on the outside of the gas tank????????

Fuel filter? Yes the early models have the filter outside while the 06-07 have an in-tank filter. So pretty much anyone with an early donor mounted their filter outside.

I had an in-tank filter, it wouldn't fit into the FFR provided gas tank so I had to modify the fuel pump so the Fuel filter is mounted outside the gas tank.
I have a 2007 WRX though.

I had a 2007 donor as well but I then upgraded to the new FFR fuel tank. It's really worth it.... re-use your whole pump/float/filter assembly.... it just bolts right on to the new tank and the new tank gives you more seat room. Call FFR and they will work out a good deal with you on it.
If not, just get an external fuel filter from somewhere like Summit Racing that has whatever fittings you need on each end and is made for fuel injection (instead of carbs). In my case that would have meant AN fittings but if you are just using the FFR setup, it would be something like 5/16" barbs I think.
