Hi all,

Karen, Dave, and I (the selection committee for the Robert Feddersen Memorial - Factory Five Racing Legacy award) wanted to take a minute and say a few words about the selection of the award each year. Essentially, we wanted to give you a little background about what we do to come up with the winner each year.

About mid April each year, we open the window for the nominations on both forums and typically, the nominations start coming in right away via a few different avenues. Sometimes, people post on one or both forums and more often that not, nominations are sent via PM. I've even had them via email or phone call in past years.

After the nomination window closes, we assemble all of the nominations in one document and then email (or PM it) to each of the selection committee which again, consists of David Hodgkins, Karen Salvaggio, and myself. After we've all had a chance to digest them, we meet via conference call (we're typically on different corners of the country) and decide on a winner. There is always a lengthy discussion and each year, we have been able to get to a decision that everybody thinks is the best one for that year. It's democratic, impartial, and difficult (in a great way) because it's like trying to pick among many deserving people.

We wanted to be sure that everyone knows that...

We don't take into account where a person lives (what part of the country) but decide to the best of our ability based on the nominations that we receive. It's important to note that while multiple nominations for the same person definitely help, What is truly inside of the nomination, ie. the text of it, is really the important stuff. It's great to add an X2 for somebody but what is really needed is to hear how this person touched you in the selfless helping way that you know they did. Also, we get more PM's than actual posts on the nomination threads. It's clear that many people would like to choose a private setting to show their thanks and nominate and we completely respect that.

In closing, we have a fantastic task of deciding on a winner each year and are am truly thankful to Dave Smith and Factory Five Racing for creating and perpetuating the award to remember Robert and also to recognize those people that have the same type of helpful spirit that he had. Thank you to everyone who nominates each year (publicly and privately), we couldn't dream of getting to a winner without you.

Randy, Karen, and Dave.
