FFR can be able to build turn key cars.

I think they would still have to have all kinds of whacky things that would increase weight. Like emmissions stuff,airbags, cumplezones maybe? It says they would still have to conform to current safety standards, which I don't think you could do and still have a 1800lb 818.

IIRC from Dave's post a lot of that stuff would not be required in the small production number category. The point was to not saddle such a small company with the development and testing costs of all the regs that apply to mass production builders.

TrickyPete, safety standards are not in the bill, but rather emission standards are according to Congress's press release: "The vehicles would meet current model year emissions standards and manufacturers would be permitted to install clean engines from other EPA-certified vehicles to help achieve that requirement." Looks like we'll be seeing Coyote and Ecoboost engines with mufflers and catalytic converters become the standard offerings in these cars.
