Is there a secret to installing the rear view mirror? I got my windshield installed and has the plate with the wire clip in it already install. I slide it in sideways and then rotated it to try to lock it in but is loose as hell. How do I get it tight?

Mine is very loose too. I can't see a thing if the road isn't perfectly smooth.

I saw this at Advance Auto yesterday. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/k-source-universal-rearview-mirror-8-dn080/6210015-P?searchTerm=rearview+mirror#

It has a screw that tightens to hold it in place, so I might give that a shot. It's also a lot less bulky than my donor mirror with its non-functioning compass and automatic dimmer.

I used one of these along with a standard mirror:

I haven't got that far, but the Subaru mirrors with compass or homelink were an accessory mirror that used an adapter to mount to the standard mirror mount. That may be your problem. You may just need to find a plain no options subaru mirror to install.

Jamie,

Did that fit in the existing mount that comes on the windshield or did you have to remove and replace?

Fits right on the existing mount. Replace the clip with the one in the kit and slide the little metal piece under it, then screw the black part onto the metal piece.

Jamie,

What would you call that adapter kit and where did you buy it. I have a standard mirror I bought from Auto Zone but need that adapter to make it work.

Click on the picture - it's a link to the product on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Gentex-50-901160M-Honda-Subaru-Adapter/dp/B00STZS6YK/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1433352854&sr=8-21&keywords=rear+view+mirror+adapter).

Page 39 of the beta disassembly guide shows the rear view mirror, which got me thinking. Some donors will come with the auto-dimming / compass mirror and most folks will want to use the standard mirror instead. The wire-spring clip that fits into the piece which glues to the windshield is different between standard and auto-dimming mirrors, so be sure to grab that spring-clip when you fetch a standard mirror from a junk yard.

That's from a two year old thread.
Yep, different post diameter and thus different spring clip size.
