Thought I'd cross-post from our build thread in hopes that someone else had this problem, and solved it.
We've gotten to the body now, and for the most part things line up pretty well. This one, though, has us scratching our heads.

We have chassis 297, and FFR's '33 tank, as was supplied at the time of our pickup in October.

Has anyone else been off by multiple inches on the filler neck to body? There's no way we can flex things to fit.
It's looking like we'll need to:

cut the lower 90* portion shorter, and slide the filler towards the tank
cut it halfway up the neck, and install a pair of 90* or 45* fittings to shift it towards the front of the car
???

I ended up cutting it and using rubber hose to make it work for the FFR tank and Boyd tank on the 2 818S builds I did. Check my build threads.

Do you have another picture of how you are connected from the bent metal tube to the tank? Mine lined up perfectly.

Mine lines up pretty well too

Not a good pic, no. I can get one tonight, though.

We have a ~3" (or whatever dim FFR gives in the manual) piece of the large fuel hose connected to the tank as a coupler, and the filler neck was shoved in pretty well.

Your filler neck looks really high compared to mine. Maybe it's just the angle of your picture? I had to trim and wrestle with the hose to get it to line up. Even still I have a slight kink as you can see, but it doesn't restrict flow. Hope this helps:

potentially stupid question - could you have the metal tube flipped? (ie - put the end you currently have up high down at the fuel tank coupling)

GUNS, ours is WAY high relative to yours. We're only 3-4 inches away from the body.

Bill, I wondered this. I don't think so, but I'll look again!

that was going to be my suggestion. perhaps we are both stupid

There are two different tubes. I have both. FFR sent me one because the one that came with the kit was incorrect. Post a photo of the one you have.

I am in the same situation as Andrew, about 3" away from the hole in the side sail. I can spring it forward that much, I don't see why I won't do it.

Ok, so last night i had some time to look at this again.

We had a P clip from brake lines preventing the filler from wanting to flex towards the opening. I moved it, and now it takes a significant amount of force, but not entirely unreasonable.

Some photos for those who asked.

Yes, it's much closer to the bodywork than some images posted.

Since we're planning on going to a front mounted fuel cell in the future, this, with its stress applied, should be fine for the time being.

I've mentally flipped it around, and I'm 99% sure we don't have it on backwards.

Yeah, it is not on backwards. The hard 90 goes at the bottom.

Andrew,
I don't know if this will help.
Here is a picture from the grassroots car.

It looks like your pipe has an extra bend.

Here is the picture out of the manual.

Bob and Andrew

As Craig indicated there are two filler necks that were provided. The GRM one is the original, like Craig I have both. Andrew, trim the bottom and it will line up fine
