View Full Version : Still no progress on JUDGING PANEL, does that concern you?

The JUDGING PANEL still has not been worked out. I think that is a big concern, especially for anyone taking all the time and effort to enter this competition.
What do you think?

I think the fact that they haven't released the names yet does not mean they do not have judges lined up. Even if they don't though, what is the "concern"?

You have GOT to be kidding with that statement.

This is one of the big reason why I am not submitting design until the last week of the contest.

I'm missing something. What would be the problem even if FFR judges the contest itself? There will be a winner and prizes will still be handed out. I guess I'm not seeing the 'concern' either.

Unless the pros/semi-pros thought they would have an upper hand with a more 'seasoned' judging base?

What's your concern with who the judges are? Would you not enter if certain people were picked?

If it was Sarah Palin, Vin Diesel and Xzibit, you can bet I wouldn't submit my designs.

Ok fair enough, do you think they just need to be car people, or do they need to be professional designers?

Not sure what they need to be. I would think that having a professional designer in there to judge would make sense. That's just me.

To be honest. What worries me more about not having the judges picked is that it seems to follow along with the slowing interest trend that seems to be swooping over this whole thing. At first it was a rush of info and enthusiasm. And now it seems to have slowed to a trickle. The judges not being picked is just a part of the bigger problem. If it's even a problem. I'm not a Factory Five engineer/employee. So maybe the lack of updates and info and enthusiasm is just part of the deal. But the earlier fervor and the constant rush of designs just isn't there now. And I don't know if that is because nobody has new designs to offer, or if it has to do with the lack of updates and weekly winners and the lack of enthusiasm from the people involved. It could be any number of things. But it is concerning.

Again, I leave for a day or two and I miss so much!
I can probably answer a few questions that have been floated here.
Judges are already decided, We are just waiting on a few guys who may join this weekend. I can tell you that one judge is a professor of design at the worlds leading design school, one is a world famous car designer, one is a leader in CAD technology, one is a leader at a Fortune 100 company (pandering to our sponsors), one is from the Grassroots Motorsports community, and we have Jim here at Factory Five.
In deference to the judges who have not signed on yet we are not releasing this information, but its only a week or so before we can crow about em.
As far as designs are concerned, WOW! All of us at Factory Five are BLOWN away...

FFR, at least in the past has been very secretive about any new project. Very little info is ever released except to insiders who are sworn to secrecy. This is the first project they have opened up to the world before an official launch or at least a showing somewhere like SEMA. So I think its just FFR being FFR.
On the other hand I do think a lot of interest is waning. Weekly updates with just tidbits of info would keep this place buzzing. As far as I can tell there are only about ten of us posting regularly.

Guys,

I have been an absentee landlord here JEEESH. Apologies to all. The business at FFR has been keeping me very occupied as has prep for this intro at Open House on June 11. I have been waiting on confirmation from Tim at Grassroots Motorsports on only one remaining judge (Chip Foose). We will be sending out a mass email with the judges announcement shortly. I can at least settle you all down with a few names. Design panel of Judges includes, Wayne Cherry from GM, Murray Pfaff from Pfaff designs, Micheal Lye (prof of Industrial design at Rhode Island School of design)... Very qualified guys so relax and submit your ideas without worry that they will be reviewed by Fred Flintstone.

CHIP FOOSE!?!?!?!!!!

OK, the enthusiasm meter just got defibrilated. I think the enthusiasm issue is going to be resolved for some time now...

Fred's dead baby, Fred's dead (or was that Zed?). Seriously, Foose is the only one not confirmed and I should know shortly so I didn't want to cheese it up. The designs I've seen so far are amazing.

You're thinking of Zed. And it was his chopper. Wait. The 818 is going to be a Subaru powered chopper! AWESOME!!!.

Just kidding. Thanks for the information. I'm re-enthused ;)

Thanks to olpro for starting this thread. I hadn't given much thought about judges or the importantce of who they were until now.

Brandon, indeed it was sarcasim. I've seen Overhaulen a few times and believe Chip is a 3 time Riddler winner???

Always hard to get an true idea of what someone is like from a show, but he does come across as one of the most genuine guys out there.

Plus a talented artist and real car-guy. He knows what people like, and he knows what looks good.

Charley Hutton is another guy I would love to meet someday, again hard to tell what people are really like, editing and all, but seems like a real level headed guy who just loves to paint.
