a friend gave me a tremec tranny tag has codes B1073, 86-012 AC, and 12717.
It looks like a t56. Also came out of a wreaked mustang. Does anyone know anything about these codes?

Google "T56 tag codes" has lots of hits and seems to match what you pictured. Found that:
86-012 = Appears to only be a partial. Probably is 1386-012 which is a Tremec T56 for 5.0 Mustang Aftermarket
B1073 = Mfg date code and shift. Feb 10, 2007, 3rd shift.
AC = Revision
12717 = Serial number

Thanks Edwardb. I'm building a mk4 with coyote and am going to try installing this trans with 3 link solid axle. Any feedback greatly welcomed. It was bolted to 95 5.0 block. Coyote is on engine stand now. I measured holes in trans, looks close using different holes in bell housing.

Yea, but that build was an IRS, where the T56 will work. It's not just a matter of physically fitting. The bigger issue is the shorter driveshaft can create U-joint binding issues with a solid axle. The IRS setup can get away with the shorter driveshaft because the pumpkin doesn't move. If you haven't already, search on this topic over on the other forum. (FFCars.com) A number of threads where this is discussed in some detail.

Never touched one but agree w/ EdwardB. I have always read for years that the T56 is too long to go w/ a solid axle car.

States here t56 wil work with a 4.6. Is the coyote the same length as 4.6?

The Coyote is a derivative of the 4.6, and as I understand does sit a bit forward and/or is slightly shorter than the more traditional pushrod engines. Personally, I would call Factory Five and talk to one of their technical experts and review your intended combination of engine, trans and rear suspension. The other obvious solution is to consider IRS.
