View Full Version : My First Real Drive with 7074

Well, I couldn't wait any longer and finally took 7074 out for a fairly decent first drive. It was licensed last fall (on Halloween) and I did a couple of short drives that weekend, but snow the following week (and salt on the roads) meant the end of my driving season. After a bunch of nice days and little rain, I couldn't take the wait any longer and rolled it outside on Easter. I drove a variety of country and town roads visiting friends - all the while totally losing track of time.

Just a few observations...

It's loud.
It's fast.
Wind is not a real issue - I have the sun visors and wind wings and found it very comfortable.
Leg position is a bit awkward for the right foot - not much I can do here as I've already done a few things to optimize my seating position.
The modified Kirkey vintage buckets are really comfortable - especially with the lumbar bladder from Forte's.
The view through the windshield is awesome - much better than when sitting in the garage and making engine noises.
It purrs along just fine at 2000 - 2100 rpm when doing 55 - 60 mph in 4th gear.
It attracts a bunch of attention from other motorists, pedestrians, and Harley riders.
When you hope the oil is leaking from the distributor "o" ring, so you replace that and expect the problem to go away, that's really just wishful thinking and it's actually coming from the front of the intake.
The ride with the three-link is nice, but the 15" wheels with taller sidewalls offer a smoother ride than 17s.
Most people you meet have no idea what it is.
Did I mention it's loud? ... and fast?

Since it didn't happen without a picture, here's the best I have, showing the 46.7 miles of pure bliss. Graduation photos to come as soon as the brown landscape disappears.

I'm thrilled for you, and very much looking forward to having the same experience with my car-minus the oil leak, I hope. :-) Congrats! BTW-love the sticker on the speedo.

I successfully sealed a front intake to block joint w/o removing the intake. I washed the area three times in succession w/ brake clean and light compressed air. Then I applied a grey silicone. I worked it into the joint w/ my finger tip. Been fine for two years.

BTW, I let it set up over night before driving.

Wow! I just assumed you had gotten to drive it a lot since registration. That must have been tough. Glad you got a break in the weather. I think everyone gets the sort of charge you got on your first real drive. It's just kind of a sensory overload in a good way. You should be getting a lot of looks with that fancy paint job and all the details. You know you will be hearing the usual question but with yours probably more than most, " is it a real Cobra?".

Good luck on your road trips.

Great post.

As WEK says - a sensory overload. Its a feeling you will never forget. How were the roads - any puddles (I hate puddles)?

No mention of the pucker factor.

Looking forward to the video.
