The interior is coming along nicely. One more door panel and then figuring out exactly what to do about the sill plates. Having some stainless sheet bent for me to replace kit pieces. Orange vinyl turned out to be a pretty good match to the paint color. 40124

Hi Bill,
I like how your interior turned out. That console looks really good. What did you make it out of?

Started out using 1/2 plywood, but it splintered pretty badly at the edges. It was helpful to mock up for the final design though. I ended up using 1/2 MDF board for the sides and 1/4" MDF for the two center pieces. Then just glued (sprayed contact cement) the vinyl over the boards (4 pieces in all). The sides are held together with stretchers (glued and screwed) and the middle pieces lay on top of those, recessed slightly. So they can be removed without removing the sides. A tight fit, so no need to fasten them in. Cup holders came from a poker supply internet site (imagine that).
One tip that might be helpful - on the mock-up, I had a hard time fitting the bottom edges to the trans tunnel - its not a straight line and the area where the bottom of the sides hit the tunnel is sloping down. So I got it close, put some masking tape down on the tunnel (so the bondo wouldn't stick), then put the unit in place and packed bondo in the voids. When cured, sanded the excess on the sides and had a perfect fit

Beautiful interior. Simple & clean! No gauge and/or switch clutter. VERY nice looking and well executed.
I like the paint color with the black leather too, really sets it off well.
Beautiful car, beautiful interior!

Bill,
Where did you get your roll bars? They look nice.

Nevin, I searched on the internet and found a place in Wisconsin who would supply the Stainless Steel tubing and bend it to my specs. Sent them a drawing and got the bars and mounting sleeves about two weeks later. See the thread below for more detail.
