Just wondering how far to pull the fender out when drilling for the lower tab mount.

Install the bulb seal first, then drill where it's compressed the way you want. No need to guess.

Wow they have a tab there now. My old MKII doesn't have that. I would push it out as far as you can w/ a slight amount of pressure. That will gain you a little clearance for both tires and exhaust. Just don't put any stress in the body.

Have you fitted the doors and side pipes? I just put mine where it wanted to be after moving the bottom of the body to get the best door fit. There is very little lateral flex to the body behind the side pipe opening because of the curled under design. Any force, out or in, put on at the elephant ears just caused a change in shape of the body side above the exhaust cutout.

Thanks guys. I managed to get them installed with very little trimming. Like many parts of the project, I was over thinking it. Once you get started, it all falls into place.
