For sale is a completely rebuilt Ford 8.8 iron IRS differential with a new 28-spline Detroit TrueTrac limited slip unit. I bought this early in the build process, then went with an aluminum differential. Rather than let this collect dust until it is only worth its scrap value, I tore it completely apart and replaced all the bearings, races and seals with new Ford Motorsport components. I added a new 28-spline Detroit TrueTrac limited slip unit, as well as used Ford factory 3.27 gears. The gears were taken out of a local guy's Mustang and are in very good condition. The ring gear bolts are new, as they should be, as are the ARP high-strength carrier cap studs.

I set the pinion bearing preload at 21 inch-lbs, about in the middle of the spec for new bearings (16-28 inch-lbs.). The pattern is evenly centered between top and bottom of the tooth, and is a little heavy toward the inside of the ring gear, which I understand is good. Backlash is .010, right in the middle of spec (.008 - .012). Runout on the side of the ring gear is .003, and is .004 on the back of the ring gear, both of which I understand to be within spec. All of the above can be seen in the photos below.

I cleaned up the outside of the case very well and applied 2 coats of POR-15 black paint. I have not yet painted or clear coated the factory aluminum cover, but can do so shortly. I am asking $650, which is below my out-of-pocket costs. If interested, shoot me an email at jcm250b at juno.com.
