Through the hard work of spec racer Jeff Awender, the Factory Five Racing Challenge Series group received an invitation to run with the SCCA Historic group at the Vintage Classic. The event was held at the historic and beautiful Laguna Seca Raceway, and the FFR's would run with the Big Bore Production (BBP) group, pitting alongside some of the most historically signifcant racecars in the world. Several vintage Cobra's on hand, as well as some great GT-350's. Porsche 911's, Camaro's, Corvette's, 240 Z's, Volvo's and even a Falcon Sprint.
Challenge Series drivers Jeff Awender, Mike Beeler, TC McNett, and John Teaby would bring their spec racers, and Karen Salvaggio brought the Coupe to run alongside these great cars in the BBP Class. This would the first trip to Laguna Seca for all of our drivers, with the exception of John Teaby, who lives in Monterey, and has many years of driving experience at his home track. Lots of beautiful pictures and great videos from the Saturday event, which we'll post ASAP........
Here's the results from Saturday Race (36 car field):
Mike Beeler: 10th BBP/22nd overall (1:49.854)
TC McNett: 8th BBP/17th overall (1:47.432)
Jeff Awender: 6th BBP/14th overall (1:46.294)
John Teaby: 13th overall (not registered in BBP) (1:45.604)
Karen Salvaggio: 5th BBP/11th overall (1:46.013)

That's terrific, because of the sound limits it's very rare they would allow us noisey boys and girls to run there. I bet you all had a ball!

Karen
Thanks for the photos and video!
I hope you're having as much fun as it looks like you are.
A couple of questions:
1. I noticed in the video what looks like some holes in the upper left corner of the windshield. Are those actually reflections that show up when the light is in a certain orientation?
2. Was the break in the middle of the race a full course yellow situation? After the restart, there were some "interesting" lines being used by some of the slower cars you came up on.

It was one fun weekend for sure....And for anyone that's dreamed of running Laguna and takin on the Corkscrew, it's the most amazing turn I've ever driven.....As you make that long run up the hill, accelerating hard in fourth gear, the ocean comes into view just as you prepare for the braking zone and the hard left-right hander (uh, not that I was looking, but I did sneak a peak a few times if traffic permitted)...It's simply an amazing, blind, over the hill, turn into, well, nowhere, and you just pitch the car in there knowing that the inside runoff strips are there, somewhere, right?....On Saturday nigth after out first day of driving, us enduro nuts talked about what a kick that track would be for a night enduro....Oh ya, I'm in! ;.)
Trout...The "holes" you're seeing are reflections/shadows from the tech stickers on the windshield.......There was a full course caution for the silver Vette backwards.sideways at six...We raced at 12:30 PM, and it's hard for the camera to pick up those yellows in the bright sunshine.
Thanks again!! We had a great time!
