I know a few people have touched on different techniques for installing the mesh in their build threads, but I thought over time we could collect a few different methods in 1 place for easy reference.

I know someone used S-shaped window trim and then ditched the aluminum trim ring but couldn't find it in a search.

Also, I saw some photos from Michael Everson essentially epoxying a stud through the mesh and then gluing the mesh and trim ring together before attaching to the body. I like this, but curious if you can see the side of the mesh from certain angles since it is sitting between the body and trim ring when using this technique.

I don't like the FFR method because it limits the removability factor. I am going to be painting my mesh and trim rings black and am thinking about using a black rivet through to sandwich it all together. Anybody done this? Result would be {Exposed Rivet Head -> Trim Ring -> Fiberglass -> Mesh -> Rivet backup washer -> End of Rivet}. Obviously this isn't easily removable, but could be drilled out and re-installed when it comes time to paint.

Thoughts? Other methods? Sources for non-FFR supplied parts used?

Thanks everyone!

Here is a link to Mike's install for completeness. Perhaps I should have tagged along onto his thread to start with. Forgot he had it separated out: http://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?17203-How-I-am-mounting-my-grilles

if you trim the mesh flush or smaller with the trim ring, it cannot be seen.

For the body vents, I stole an idea from Aloha and used shiny black edge guard because I like the thin border. I bought a sheet of die-cut hex-pattern steel from an industrial supply company and sprayed it gloss black. I like the more open look, but my wife says the inside stuff shouldn't show. (She's wrong.;) Here's a photo of some of the vents.

nicely done Pete. I like the more open look as well. how did you secure the mesh itself to the body?

I swung by the hardware store at lunch and picked up the necessary supplies to copy Mike for the time being. I will hopefully be able to paint the trim rings and mesh tonight so I can make a big dent in the body assembly work this weekend.
