I have a MKI with IRS and pro shocks on all 4 corners. I have the springs that came with the kit and I want to go to larger capacity on the rear. I think the stock were 250lbs all around. Can someone recommend springs for me. Application is heavy track and moderate street. I don't really care about "stiff ride" on the street. I'm more concerned about track use and not bottoming out on heavy rear loads on high speed cornering. Perhaps new springs all around????Thanks.

I use 750 front, and 850 rear. Give a stiff ride, but good control.
I would only use Eibach springs.

I have a set of 450# springs that I am planning on using. I am considering going to the 250# springs with a sway bar in the rear. I already have a VPM front bar. I want a soft ride just don't want to rub.
I have a set of 750# springs that where standard on the new IRS and I am not planning on using them. If 750# springs is what you think you want I would trade them for your 250# ones so I have the option. PM me if your interested.

Mike, your car came with 450lb springs in all 4 corners. I would recommend changing springs and put new shocks in. A 250lb spring in the IRS is way to soft, it would float like a 65 caddy and bottom out regularly. I thing 450's are to soft. Good shocks will do more for your ride than you can imagine.

Mike, if there are any MkIVs around that you could ride/drive I would do that. I helped build a friends 1.5 yrs ago and was very satisfied w/ the ride/handling combination that the FFR konis and springs provided. I would also seriously consider the QA1 shocks from Breeze. I have them on the front and will be getting the rears in a month or so. The ability to quickly change the bump and rebound settings is fantastic. I set my fronts at 3 bump and 5 rebound for the street. I change to 5-6 bump and 6 rebound for autocross. Also I found that changing the settings is a quick way to alter the handling balance between runs. I can't wait to be able to do the rear too.

It's been so long since my build I guess I forgot the spring lbs. Thanks Gordon. riampman: I guess I don't have 250lb springs so I can't help you. Do you want to sell the springs you have since I can't trade. Do you know if the "new" IRS springs are the same dimension as the old ones? BOB: do you have IRS set up? I'll call FFR and find out more about my old springs. GORDON: what shocks are you recommending and why?

Mike, I will sell. Don't know what they are worth.. Make an offer. They are the same diameter as the ones for my Pro shocks but they are shorter. I think 8" tall instead of 10". They are for the new Koni's but should still work. I will try and get some dimensions.

I'll call FFR on monday and see if the 8" height will work. I assume since they are stiffer they don't need the travel of a 10" shock.

BOB: do you have IRS set up? I'll call FFR and find out more about my old springs.
Yes, I have IRS. I'm using the FFR Koni non-adjustable shocks. They came with 750# springs from Koni (I assume). I upgraded to a Eibach 750# spring, and that was an improvement. Then I went up to an 850# spring. Good set up for the track, but about max stiffness for the street.
