I've been looking for an in-line fuel filter to replace the stock subaru filter - just for ease of installation and locating a place to mount it. Everything I've come across has been specific to carburetor and lower fuel pressures. Is purchasing fittings to use an inline filter something I'm going to have to bite the bullet on?

Summit sells FI universal filters. I think they are from Fuelab but can't remember. They are expensive, if you get the kind that filter down to the smallest particles.

Just buy an 02 WRX filter, big, made for the application and easy to mount all you need is a strap of aluiminum, two nutserts, two hose clamps and the filter is $8.50 @ NAPA

I got an inexpensive inline filter here:

A few other builders used it as well. It has NPT fittings, so cheap and easy to hook up. I got the small, 10um filter, P/N 1072.

I like Bob's solution for racing. How often will you replace it?? Likely, almost never. If you have a street car, and log some miles, then the RobbMc Performance filter would interest me and I would spring for the biggest one and buy a spare element.
Here's another one that is of interest to me: -8AN fittings and 40 micron filter by XRP. (http://dmpfasteners.com/shop/8-an-fuel-filter-with-40-micron-stainless-steel-screen-9621?zenid=8rljp29eb0tgt4sefoo2cmgj62)

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone. I went with Wleehendrick's post. NPT fittings are appealing as they're significantly cheaper than AN.
