Hey, We were just wondering where people have mounted the Starter Solenoid in the Roadster. Is there one locaiton that has worked better than another - near the master cylinder or the engine? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks so much,

Stuart K

I mounted mine on the firewall (centered) just above the 2x2 support. This way it kept all of the wires close to the starter. Had to run a battery cable from the battery in the trunk to the solenoid and had to run the ignition wire through the firewall but no big deal. I am happy with the location.

I think it depends on battery location and ease of access since it could be a tie point for the main circuits. Typically the largest copper wires need to be the shortest for minimal voltage drop. After that, it's you call.

Why not eliminate it? Most modern starters have them now anyways.

I haven't installed a starter solenoid on either of my builds. Agree with Mike. Modern mini-starters already have one.

Aside comment: See you're pretty new to the forum. I would suggest posting specific questions in the general Roadster area. This area is for actual build threads. You will get more traffic and likely more responses in the general area.

On cars that I have used a front mount battery I put the solenoid on the front side of the RH engine mount perch:

For ones with rear mount batteries I've installed them on the tunnel "horseshoe" like so...

...and made covers to hide the solenoid as well as the disconnect switch, etc.

Hey Mike and Edwardb. Does it hurt to have the extra solenoid if you have the mini starter other than the fact that it is one more part that can go bad ?

It doesn't hurt. Just redundant.

As you can see from Jeff's second photo there are a lot of connections to that solenoid. Would be better on that solenoid than all those wires running down to the starter solenoid. I'm, split, as I will mount a positive buss bar for my positive connections and may or may not include that solenoid too.

Thank you all for the help. Ill check with my engine configuration to see if its redundant, but for now ill mount in one of the locations you all suggested!!

Thanks again for all of the helpful advice,

Stuart
