Alternate steering column...

Hi I'm looking at using a different steering column. The original one doesn't fit that well and it doesn't do the 818 justice in terms of looks. I'm wondering about some characteristics of the original one:

1) Column length (36"??)
2) Column diameter (to fit in the original mount 2 1/4in?).
3) Lower output shaft characteristics ( 3/4 in DD or 36 spline, 1 in 48 spline, etc)
