Hello all. I just wanted to pass on information about Fortes Mechanical Throttle Linkage kit. It is awesome. I installed it a couple weeks ago and it is like driving a different car. The throttle is sooooo smooth now. I started out with a L.... Cable. The gas pedal was very stiff and seemed to be getter worse. I was getting to the point where I was afraid it was going to completely stick on me (That would be bad). While it would be alot easier to install this when building the car. I installed it after having the car car on the road for 4000 miles.
Thanks for a great product and the assistancce you provided.

Sounds good, how about a few pics? Will this work with the Russ Thompson gas pedal?
EDIT: Found a pic but would like to see one of it mounted:

It should attach to the Russ Thompson pedal without any problems.

I don't think I have any good pictures, but it will work with the Russ Thompson pedal. I played around a lot with the various angles and pivot lengths, and I ended up drilling a new hole in the RT pedal to attach the linkage to. It's not necessary, but I wanted the pivot length at the pedal to be the same as the pivot length at the carb.
Forte's throttle linkage is great. But, just be careful to thread the inside of the rod STRAIGHT and not at an angle. It's a lot easier to screw it up than you might think.

38392I recently installed Mike's mechanical linkage. Like everything Mike does, it's first class!

Very nice. I would like to see more pics of connection to pedal if available. Very clean and solid looking. Nick C

I am getting ready to do this mod as well. I have a possibly dumb question but here it goes. I have an Edlebrock carb so the linkage is a bit different than the Holleys. I can mount my rod to the top of the carb linkage and have it pull or I can mount it to the bottom and have the rod push. For those who have done this mod does it make a difference which way it works ??

No problem. You can have it operate however your heart desires (or machine requires, whatever).

Do you have a photo where it attaches to the gas pedal?

Scroll to the right to see more pictures of the linkage. Let me know if the link doesn't work.

My RT pedal is a very old version so may be a little different than current. But attaching the rod linkage was just a matter of drilling out the existing hole where the cable attached to a diameter that matches the small rod end studs on the linkage. I made my own linkage from several posts on the other forum before Forte had his available. All I can say is I agree 100% w/ the OP. I had a very good cable setup w/ all the angels right etc and using the good black L---- cable. Installed the rod linkage and only went around the block and got back home as fast as possible...to add a second return spring to the carb. The difference from the cable made the gas pedal so light it was very difficult to drive. This has to be experienced to be believed, it is that much better.

I just ordered my linkage along with the pedal. It has to be better then what came with my kit. I was never a big fan of cable as I do like the "feel" of a mechanical linkage. I only started to build the car as I can't compare a before and after feel.

You will be very happy you made this decision now. Enjoy the process of the build.
