It's all finally started...
First step was to transform the 0-car garage we have back into the 3-car it once was. Got it back to 2-car  Pictures will follow later of the renovation.
Ordered my kit on 10/14/14 during the Fall Special. $2,500 off options, off to a great start. Thanks Dave, Sally, Vinny, Jay, and all of the FFR Team!
Bought a donor ("Peggy") on 1/20/15, Type 65 Coupe #675 arrived on 1/29/15. So far all I've done is inventory of the kit and moved a couple things around, but I hope to get moving a little quicker soon. Organ donor Peggy's time has come! I'm still having a lot of trouble tracking down the rear end components for the IRS, I called 10 places recently and no one had anything.
This was a great thing to see Thursday morning. I've got to say, Stewart Transportation is second to none, and Jim the driver was hilarious. Everything went smoothly, and I was more than happy with the service.

The car!

The boxes... In the kit all I was missing was two cotter pins and the stuff on backorder. They also sent me a wood and aluminum wheel instead of the leather one I ordered, but Vinny at FFR is taking of it for me. Other than that, no complaints!

Here she is, sittin' pretty. Still working on a name, deciding between "Eloise" and "Virginia".

Nose goes in the game room for the foreseeable future. Cannot believe how massive it is. It really makes me want to do a "Mach Five" paint job...
https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/391/18322381132_8025ab331a.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/tV5ZyY)
So the plan is to keep a tight budget, use as much of the donor as possible (Mark Dougherty is rapidly ruining this part of the plan), and get it done in under a year. Nothing too fancy, IRS, might do some work on the stock 302, will try undercar exhaust, power steering & brakes, Kirkey seats, and maybe some nifty electronics and engraved parts at the end of the build.
I am going to go with a red and black theme. The outer color I think will be a metallic dark red like this Audi below, with the almost ubiquitous stripes (matte black?). I plan on powder coating myself as much as I can along this theme.

Thanks to everyone who's been a part of this process so far, especially Garry Bopp (Maybe I should have just bought his?) and Mark Dougherty. I look forward to learning from everyone in the FFR Community, and will try to keep you all updated as much as possible. I live 30 minutes west of Houston, so feel free to come see the build and help out if you're in the area.
Thanks,
Michael (or Mike, just as long as you remember one of them!)

Congrats, Michael, on the delivery of your coupe. I think everyone should have a coupe nose in their game room! HaHa!
I just listed my coupe for sale on consignment with Motorcar Studio in Atlanta ...
Have fun with the build ... Mark D is an incredible resource for any FFR build!

Working on a Powder Coating booth to do my own, coming out pretty good so far. All of the sides will have smooth plywood on the inside, and there will be a cheap Home Depot fan sucking air through the filter in the back. After I'm done, I'll simply open the gate and sweep excess powder back into its container. Also have a caster with the wheel taken off for part rotation, will also connect wires for the ground so I don't have to clip it to the actual part.
Turned out almost exactly like my design in Solidworks

I like the red you chose (may want to choose a different link though or is that "Peggy"?) LOL
Speaking of which, no pics of the donor? I went the donor route also, which worked pretty good for me.
Sounds like you have a good plan in hand, and Mark is great!
I like your powder coat booth.

Thank you, I am already enjoying the hell out of it! Friends coming over to help, managing the logistics of parts coming in and out, budgeting the car, every step has been enjoyable and worthwhile. I just hope I enjoy it as much as you guys have enjoyed Scoopy and Coupey!

Thanks for the kind words, John. Here's the picture of Peggy, I could have swore that I posted one earlier! If I had an Audi like that, I probably wouldn't be building this car lol. She looks pretty good in the front and has no rust in the engine bay. There's a nice layer of grime though, which is good and bad. The back window is smashed in too (not pictured), which makes her look AWFUL. Funny story: I brought the car home in working condition, and started taking parts off a week later. Well, one week after that I get a letter from the HOA saying I can't have an inoperable vehicle in the driveway, and I have three days to get rid of her somewhere o.O A week earlier she was running, so how did they know?!?! I just assume it was the smashed rear window I guess, haha. But it's all good, we put her in the garage for now.

We'll see how the PC booth turns out, but I think it'll be perfect for what I want to do. Here are the colors I ordered from Prismatic Powders (Am I allowed to post these...? I'm not sure). The Illusion Cherry will be applied as necessary to accent the black frame, with a clear coat on top. The Red Sparkle goes over the ink black, to get the effect shown on the Red Sparkle page. The Super Chrome will simply have a top clear coat and be for brackets and such.

Hey Michael:
Congrats on pulling the trigger. At the pace I'm going, you'll probably finish yours before me. The fact that you almost have a powder-coating booth built, is proof that you're getting ahead of the game. That's good, though. This way, I can "borrow" ideas from you... Good luck!

All right, where there has been some stuff going on! I promise I haven't been just sittin' on my hands.
1) Engine taken apart and sent for a hot tank and light machining. Still had factory honing, so it wasn't too bad! Heads were a little burnt, apparently, and the valve seats needed to be reground.

4) Got Eloise back from the Powdercoater. Ended up spending more than I would with FFR, but I really don't like gloss black. This is semi-gloss (I know, a huge difference haha. Should have just gone with FFR for all the effort it was

5) Tranny taken apart to find out what's wrong with 3rd gear. Aaaaaand it's just gone. So I'll be ordering a new countershaft, 3rd gear, as well as a new 5th gear and 5th counter gear. Everything else seemed to be in great shape, although I am being careful about my budget for this. If it's too much I'll just buy a new T5.

This picture above you can see 3rd gear town up as well as 3rd on the countershaft. All the other gears except 5th still look pretty good. Most of the crap from 3rd gear somehow made it out the little hole connecting to the extension and screwed up 5th without messing up any of the other gears. I'm almost impressed. It'll cost $400-$500 to fix it if I do it right, methinks.
6) Got most of the parts for the front suspension. Going with Mark Dougherty's suggestion to go with 13" front Cobra brakes. Why haven't I known about RockAuto until now??? I got two Cobra calipers cleaned and ready to go with brackets and pads for 170 shipped!!! So much great stuff there...

We ran into a snag with the top spindle bracket bolts. I didn't save my bolts from the struts on Peggy (my 89 donor), so I'm not sure what I need. I am also now using SN95 spindles, so I'm not sure what size they use. Help here would be appreciated.
That's where Eloise is at right now, things are starting to come together. Slow going now, but I think I'm at the point where the preliminary things are coming to an end. We'll see.

Another after picture. You can see there is still some grease on everything, but it's much more manageable now. Only about two hours of work into those.
I will probably be getting a new Power Brake Booster. I think I'll probably put a wanted ad on the forums, see if I can get one in good shape for cheap.

Take the rack to autozone and trade it in on one of these. I recommend the 3.0 turns version.
#6406; 3.0 turns lock to lock
#6439; 2.5 turns lock to lock
#64163 2.25 turns lock to lock
They are all right around $100.

I planned on using it as a core with RockAuto, but AZ is actually a better deal once I take shipping into account... I'll probably go with 64163.

Craig,
I just ordered the reman steering rack (went with 6439, but I might change to 6406 as you recommended since it'll be a DD), a reman brake booster, and a reman power steering pump all from AZ for $240 including shipping. THEN they have an awesome coupon right now for 20% off and a $10 gift card, which took off $40 immediately. THEN subtract $37 for cores and that's $175 for all three!!! You just can't beat that. Thanks again!

A few other notes:
1) Harbor Freight Powder Coating is a great deal for DIY PC-ing. I've done a vice too and it came out amazing. I made a few mods to mine that I'll post on here sometime.
2) PC-ing takes a good bit of equipment. Your booth, oven, powder, plugs, cleaning materials, etc. It's not for those with small garages.
3) You get a really nice sense of satisfaction after you are done with these things. They're powdercoated!!!
4) It's relatively inexpensive once you have the equipment. I only used a couple ounces of both the metallic cherry and the clear coat, so probably max $5 worth of powder. I've decided saving it isn't worth it cause it gets all mixed when brushing it around in the booth. This doesn't matter much because it uses so little!
As an aside, if anyone would like something (that fits in a kitchen oven) powder coated, send it my way and I'll do it for free. Provided you are cool with the limited choices I have in color, of course. Harbor Freight Black and Red, metallic cherry and gloss black.

Thanks for the support guys, I feel like I'm really getting into it now. And it's FUN working on it! I bet the only way to have more fun is to drive it. So far my only complaint is that the manual needs to be rewritten in places and new pictures put into it. It can be VERY confusing, especially where I need washers and spacers and such.

Update:
My engine is done at the machine shop and ready for me to put together. They wanted to charge $200 to do the assembly. But it's all part of the learning I want, so the rest of the family engineers and I are going to have a great time putting it back together. Block was cleaned, honed, decked, new cam and pilot bearings. Pistons and rods soda blasted, checked. Apparently I have forged pistons already, so that's good. Heads were cleaned, resurfaced and assembled. New valves and springs and guides. Crankshaft was ground as well. I am going for the budget build, but I figured the engine was one thing it was all right to spend some money to get it right. I will spend around $1130 for the above (would have been cheaper, but they bought the valves and springs for me). Right now the budget is on track for $32000, but I plan on bringing it down a bit by selling some unneeded parts at some point.
Mounted the first parts of the IRS, just the LCAs and coil overs. Still waiting on t-bird parts.

Welcome to the "We need a new build manual" club. It's been this way since I took delivery of my coupe on Nov 2008. I guess the coupe people don't matter any more to FFR, as they are so busy selling GTM's, 33 Hotrods and 818's. They probably dont sell enough coupes to make it worth rewriting the manual. A shame as we are selling their goodwill also.

I've seen a few grumblings around the community, so I guess it's nothing new. I think I'll take it upon myself to annotate my build manual and ship it back to Dave and company when I'm done :D It's his favorite car, so in my mind it should have the best manual! It is a little sad to see the newer flashy cars taking all the spotlight, but that's just kind of the nature of them. Like you said, FFR is probably making a ton more money selling those that it's not worth working over the Coupe.

Michael,
I have a three link so my advise on the rear suspension may be out of wack, but I don't think there should be a space between the shock mount and the shock. Same for the control arms There should be a spacer there to fill the gap.
Front suspension looks good to me.
Adding parts to the frame is fun isn't it!?

Michael,
You have the upper control arms mounted in the wrong location. With donor Mustang spindles they bolt to the horizontal part of the frame above where you have them attached. You have them on the vertical plate which you use if using FFR spindles. This will move the upper control arm in and make the hub perpendicular to the ground.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback gents. Exactly why I posted the pictures!
John, I definitely agree on the spacings on the rear end components. I've put everything on according to the instructions as best as I can understand them, and it still came out like that unfortunately. It's not a big deal now, but I might have to go through some build threads to find out what other people have done.

Do yourself a favor and ditch the donor throttle pedal and replace it with a Russ Thompson unit. Easier now than after the FB is closed up.
Good start on your build and nice looking powder coating, do you a paint color in mind for the body to compliment the PC?

Smallish update... will post more pictures in a day or two. If y'all have any advice for me, in the next 48 hours I'll be painting and installing my aluminum and assembling my engine.
1) Ordered and installed Russ Thompson's accelerator pedal. Had to bend the top part towards the center of pedal box to avoid hitting the clutch sensor mount.
2) Mounted, drilled and clecoed footbox and cockpit floor aluminum. Trimmed the top edge of the side parts of the floor aluminum that make up the sides of the tunnel, they stuck out a little bit, as well as a few other things. Will be doing the trunk aluminum soon too, just got to cut out a hole for my trunk and battery spaces after I figure out my gas tank situation.

3) Am currently migrating to Flickr as my picture management, photobucket ain't working out for me. And the pictures are normal size!

4) Finished prepping everything for engine assembly. It should be ready to go!!! Might need to do some light emery cloth on the block where the heads sit, but that's about it! My dad rubbed down the stock camshaft with some 1200 grit sandpaper with some engine oil, and it looks beautiful. Can't wait for the next few days. Took the wire wheel to the head bolts after my dad came up with an ingenious jig for them, THEY came out great too. As an aside, do y'all recommend using engine oil or anti-seize on head bolts? I've seen so many opinions on that.

5) I figured out why the powder coating came out so purple!!! I have been curing it wrong, and all I had to do was keep it in the oven longer. The instructions say I need to have it in for the stated time AFTER the substrate has gotten to 400°F, where I have been just doing it for 10 minutes TOTAL. I have a couple extra coats on a few parts, but no harm no foul and everything looks AMAZING. Now I just have a smaller batch to do, caliper brackets, belt tensioner, redo power steering pump, etc.

I am getting my IRS components from another FFR guy, if USAA can ever learn how to mail a darn check. Seriously. Will also be going with some FR500 wheels. I'm blowing my budget on a few things, but so far my spreadsheet shows a fairly reasonable number at the moment (at least to me...) I am going to continue to be vigilant!

If you are serious, I think you're going to have clearance issues and unless that is the tailpipe, it's going to be hard finding a 3.5" pipe to clear the IRS.
Do a couple searches, there are some good threads identifying the specific mufflers with minimum profiles for undercar.
If you are able to stay on your budget with all of the goodies posted on these forums, you have amazing willpower! :p

I was definitely planning on using them as the tailpipe, but I haven't checked to see how much room there is from the IRS to the rear of the car. I'll look into the other threads for sure!

Attempted to install the steering rack, but ran into issues lining up the upper steering rack to the lower because the lower hits the brake sensor bracket in the pedal box.

Without pulling up on the end of the lower steering rack to line it up. You can see the gap in the red square.

After looking at the manual some more it seems they don't even have the switch on the brake pedal that impacts the steering shaft, so I'll just Dremel it off tomorrow and be done with the steering column. Can't wait.
Hopefully my nightmare with USAA and the USPS is over, they lost a substantial official check and it's been crazy. But hopefully the IRS and transmission I am getting together for a good price will be here soon. Will do my last batch of red powdercoating when I can get the diff cover and the T-bird spindles.
Dropped off my driveshaft at the driveshaft shop ( I didn't know there were shops that ONLY did that). The U-joints were both bad and then after I left (of course) they called and told me the transmission yoke was bad too, so it'll be $190 for new U-joints and a new yoke and for the shortening and balancing. I actually think it's a pretty good deal.
Got my upper intake manifold back from the machine shop, who cleaned it and some bolts I had for $45. This manifold is CLEAN. They even made the inside of the plenum spotless, which I was worried about. And hopefully it will all stay that way since I won't be running EGR on this car.
Painted all my aluminum with my DIY LizardSkin. Sound deadening is good, the only issue is that the latex paint comes off relatively easy by scratches. However, it should be no problem to touch up when I get to a stage that is less intensive. Also, everything on the interior is going to be upholstered anyway except for right under the seats for clearance, so none of it will be seen on the inside. I might do a write up on the DIY stuff later.
Will be doing some bead rolling for my trunk aluminum and probably doing the two piece flush dash too. I also have a (hopefully) easy idea for putting a hump on the dash so I can see the gauges.
Also pulled the trigger on a fuel tank, all of my fuel tank equipment was trashed so I am replacing it all with an OEM 15.4 gallon. I figured 22 gallons takes a lot more driving between fillups than I want to do, and the ability to have a small trunk and also rear battery makes the OEM tank an attractive option. Plus I can just follow the manual. Undercar exhaust is still planned, just need to get some materials.
I am definitely at the point where I think the Complete Kit is the way to go though, just for peace of mind and my ever upward trending cost... But hey, I never got anywhere by doing things the easy way

I mentioned I was going to do some modeling of the undercar exhaust mod, and here are some of the results. I plan on doing some other failure modes, but I'm thinking torsion as shown will be the highest risk.
The front of the main rails was held as a fixture and 1000 lbs was applied to each of the main rail's tail ends. 1000 was kind of arbitrary, although I don't think the real car will ever see anything close to this loading.
I will also be messing with the thickness of the through pipe I'm welding in, as well as it's positioning in the rear cross tubing.
Note: Main rails are modeled as 4" OD .125" wt, not .120" wt as stated on FFR's website. This means the model is slightly robust in comparison to the actual chassis. For the through tubing I am using 3" Schedule 80 DOM Tubing (3.5" OD, .313"wt) which is significantly more robust than the main rails, and leaves about .2" of radius for 2.5" exhaust to go through.
Results show that Von Mises reaches around ~35000 psi, while yield is at ~50000, so a f.o.s. of 1.43. So far so good on this though, I don't think it will be too big of an issue. The deformation shown is exaggerated, of course!

And that's all for now! Drilled a bunch of holes in the hatch aluminum as well, though. I am picking up my IRS and trans from the shipping company this week, and then I should have all parts needed to build the thing except A/C and wheels! I've been waiting on stuff to develop until now, but it should just be limited by how much I can get in the garage, which is usually a lot thankfully. I am actually also limited by waiting on the undercar exhaust mod too though, before I can start putting in aluminum for good. But there are myriad other things that I can do now!
Also, I had a wonderful group of family and friends come and work on the car this weekend, and what is a project like this without those you love? I feel truly blessed by Him!

A couple of questions.
Did you paint your distributor cap?
Is there a reason the internals of the engine look to be dry, as in unlubricated?
Other than that it's looking great!

A couple of answers. :D
I did paint the distributor cap. Are you worried about mistimed spark plugs through paint electrical conduction? I must admit I was, although I made sure there was no paint on the top of the posts where the connections are. Maybe that's not enough though
The internals look unlubed from the pictures at first glance, but if you click on them you'll see it. The lube I used was Stalube, it's really dark gray out of the bottle but is pretty much clear once spread evenly. I also did all the bearings, so there should be plenty of lube on there.

Yes, that was my concern.
If, after you've started it up, you have a problem with ignition miss try this.
At night start the car up and turn off all the lights in the garage.
If the engine is missing you'll frequently be able to see where the spark is grounding.
I've seen some that were putting on a real light show!
The spark was going everywhere but where it was supposed to.

Haha that sounds like a good time!
I think I've decided to take preemptive action and sand down the paint near the plugs. It'll be covered anyways! Thanks for the concern and support

I know I am really too late to ask this but...what are the vertical lines visible in several of the bores in the block? See your post #48 and the picture labeled 'Camshaft Installation'.

Michael,
Everything looks good, but I have a few suggestions for you.
1. I saw where your cylinders are scored, you will have a loss of power and it will smoke a little. I recommend that you have it bored maybe .030 and get a cheap set of replacement pistons.
2. Your heads are on backwards, swap sides, the EGR ports go in the back (make sure they are plugged if you are not using them), all the front brackets may or may not line up properly. Swap left to right, right to left. You could also leave it as is, but make sure you plug the EGR ports if they are in front, or you will be chasing an exhaust leak that will overheat you alternator.

Those would be some scores lol. Yeah they are there, but my engine guy said they would be ok for what I'm doing with it. I'll give him a call and double check. Thanks Craig!

1. I hope I don't have to get it bored, but I might! As I told Craig above my engine guy said it shouldn't be too big a deal for what I'm doing, but of course any scoring is bad scoring. I'll make sure though, especially since you and others have brought it up several times.
2. Hmm, I already plugged the backs with 5/8" 11 bolts. One of the bolt heads broke off though unfortunately, making it look odd. How do I know they are on backwards exactly? What size are the bolts for the front brackets? It looks like the things inside the ports on the front have threads, so I assumed those were for the front bracket bolts. Maybe I need to take them out? Thanks for your help and concern, I appreciate your input!

I got the wheels a while ago, but have just mounted them! Some bad boys right there. Width on the rear of the car is 58.25" (need 59" according to manual), and the right side tire is getting close to the passenger aluminum, so I'll be taking .5" out on the passenger side tire and .25" on the driver side. If anyone has tips on this let me know.

Brake & Fuel lines look GREAT! I like your routing on the front brake lines across the main tube (but you know I'm biased!)
Finishing them feels really good, doesn't it!
Build is coming along nicely, good job! Some nice mods going in too.
First start is getting closer
I don't know if this helps, but I read a lot of posts about the vapor canister and decided to try it without first, I could always add if needed. I drove it for a year in gel-coat and didn't notice a fuel smell after I had it dynoed and tuned, so I didn't install one. With a SBF and EFI, it may not be necessary.
Anyone know what to do with the spaces on the rear LCAs? The manual is terrible in this regard. The front and the back both.
Didn't know if you addressed this yet, but there should be a whole bunch of thin washers you will want to install to take up the slack.
What about this gap for the top of the shocks, is that all good?
Also, don't want slack here. Look for more spacers or call FFR.

It feels REAL good! Unfortunately I'll be out of town for the next three weeks, but it is great knowing that electrical is next and I am going to plan as much as I can before I come back. The goal is to have the thing running by Dec. 31st.
I've decided I may actually go with side exhaust for a while, since I have all the stuff for it and it should be easy and quick. And now I have the hard part of the undercar exhaust done anyway (the two tubes welded in the chassis), I can always go back to undercar when I have the time.
I am going to have to talk to FFR about the spacers, I put in all the ones I had and according to the manual, and almost all of the IRS parts have mounting gaps of 1/4" or more still. I have no idea why, but we'll see! Thanks for letting me know to get rid of the space, I'll find a way haha

Before you settle on placing it there make sure you account for the fuel fill. The angles between the pipe and the cap in that area can be really tight. I know on mine that canister would be right in the middle of it

Hmm, well in that case even if I can get a smaller one it might be prudent to move it under the trunk, and it shouldn't be too much trouble at all. I'll take a look at yours to see how. Thanks Timb!

About to make hopefully my last major purchase for the Coupe (besides paint and legal things), the A/C unit. I'll be going with the North Racecars unit, it seems that most people have great luck with it and a lot of people have done it. Also getting some rivnuts to make taillight access ports in the hatch, as well as for easy access on the footbox and maybe some other areas.

I am now a year in, what an experience so far. Here's an update
Text version:
-Made heat shields
-Started wiring
-Put engine and trans together and installed entire drivetrain
-Installed a driveshaft safety loop (if you want pictures I'll get some)
-Mounted P/S and A/C compressor, just need a belt now
-Radiator and condenser mounted, A/C lines measured, cut and crimped
-"trunk-trunk" fabricated with sheet and angle and installed, lined with dynamat. Put inertia cutoff switch inside
-Fabricated a battery box that will support the battery better than before and a clean looking cover for it
-Fabricated access ports for the taillights
-Fully installed rear hatch aluminum
-Put in tranny fluid & put on new FFR shifter
-Powdercoated a little bit more
-Moved Vapor canister to the battery box we fabbed, it's in a much better spot
-Cut out holes for 6x9 speakers that will be right behind our heads. It's gonna be kickin'
-Finished fuel lines to engine
-Mounted solenoid, coil, Barometric pressure sensor, various engine sensors
-Various other odds and ends that I can't think of at the moment
Made some heat shields out of some diamond plating that turned out pretty good, I still have one easy one to make for the front of the driver's footbox

Put on the upper intake, also note the compressor mounted in the bottom left. Bought an A/C delete to move P/S to the upper right and made a custom bracket to mount the North Race Cars compressor to the bottom left.

Michael:
I don't know if this has been addressed, but I have a concern from post #46. The photo which shows the frame notch for the exhaust, doesn't seem to be re-enforced. If it hasn't, this will become a weak point on the frame (worse yet if there are two of them on the same crossmember), which could lead to bending/twisting and possibly failing altogether.
My suggestion is to box it back up using the same thickness and quality of steel, contoured to keep the concave notch. For extra strength, you could also use some of that steel and weld it either inside the notch or right underneath it. If you do this, make sure that this rectangular piece is at least the same length of the notch. Keep up the good work.

Carlos, I see what you mean in post 46! That picture showed one of the two holes that I cut out in the 4" cross member, but I guess I never posted the picture of the finished mod lol. We put in the same type of steel 8 inch long 3.5"OD tubes with I think double wall thickness of the original and welded along the contour on both sides (so 4 welds total). The mod came out almost identically to my FEA model in an earlier post, so I think it will work out. I will post the finished product so you can look at it and let me know what you think

Started electrical in earnest, started off with a little relay & electronics hub. It's got a turn signal module as well as a remote door locking module. Also put in those power bus bars below

Covered and wired the dash! This was pretty fun, I've got to say. Only a couple things...
1) the green indicator light I ordered to be my other turn signal is different than what came with the kit. Need to find a green one with the "dot" pattern, not the circle pattern. You can see the difference in the first photo
2) Need to figure out which of the leads on the A/C thermostat goes to the compressor and which goes to the switch. One lead says "C" and one says "L", so I have the "C" going to the compressor right now. Second photo
3) Gotta find some spacers for the front of the dash, especially for the headlight switch where you can see a lot of the metal stem coming out
4) Still need to put in a wiper switch, wire it and the headlights and indicator lights

Did a few other various things...
-Cut off backup light switch from old tranny harness and put it on the trans.
-Found out I'll need to switch to a electrical speedo output due to Autometer gauges (I'm learning...slowly lol) I'll route it along with the backuplight switch.
-Mounted the amplifier for the speakers. Probably won't need that much power, but who knows.
-Put on the last heat shield needed in front of the drivers footbox so I can put on the headers finally
-Changed out the cork valve cover gaskets for rubber ones, filled engine with oil and break-in additive
-Installed accelerator cable, fit great and it works just right
-Fixed my build thread so the photos aren't as big haha

A few things about it:
1) Always do pre-start checks! Turned key to ignition (not start), waited for fuel pump, started smelling gas. Found out I never tightened down the rubber to hard lines... Fixed that and continued on with checks.
2) We had 3 amps being drawn with everything off. Unplugged the alternator and the draw went away. When we ran it the alternator (still unplugged) started smoking, so I think getting a new alternator will solve all of that. It was from the old mustang, and I both rebuilt and powder coated it, so there's a good chance I messed it up myself.
3) I honestly can't remember saying or looking at anything while it was going, all I could think was LOUD. I'm pretty sure I only looked at the Tach haha
4) We were trying to do a few things at once, my Dad was doing coolant and also seeing if he could get the timing
5) A little smoke came up from where the O2 sensors are welded in which is what we are yelling about in the video, we're thinking it's just slag or something burning off. Will look for it some more, but I tried to clean it after.
6) The accelerator is pretty touchy. I was trying to get to about 1800 rpm but it was really hard. I'm also a novice car guy, so that probably was part of it too
7) It started right up on the actual first try! I hadn't tested my starter switch/relay yet, and it just went perfectly. Didn't get to run it as long as I wanted. Will mount new alternator and put side pipes on for a longer run tomorrow.
Enjoy!

And a few other things:
Made what I call the "console" which has my radio, ignition, start button, and various other buttons (turn signals, fan, high beams, etc). This thing was a real pain, and took a long time. I 3D printed some corner pieces and fabbed the rest of it out of aluminum. The whole reason for the extra work is to get more room for the radio. It fits perfectly now.

Lets see, what else.
-Put on new spark plug wires
-Finished Dynamatting the cockpit. Will need just a little more for the transmission tunnel cover and odds and ends
-Mounted amplifier and speakers, hooked them up. Just need to wire up stereo and we should have music!
-Put in P/S fluid
-Put another DIY bracket on A/C compressor to give it more rigidity. I'll try and get a picture of this
-Covered a bunch of stuff in vinyl (dash, console, trans tunnel cover)
-Put in cup holders. Need a good way to hold them down still
-Moved e-brake handle to top of tunnel for easier access, will get some pictures for ya'll on this too. Need to shorten the cable and put new ferrules on though. Moving it will also make it easier for me to convert to undercar exhaust in the future.
-Did some rudimentary alignments of the wheels, after a quick call to Mark Dougherty I found out you can't align the car in the air... Probably shouldn't admit that, but this whole thing has been a brand new experience and my first car to work on :D Anyway, we aligned it a little more when it was on the ground
-Car sits about 3.5" off the ground, so about 1" too low. It certainly felt like it! Also the wheel was dangerously close to my speaker baffles. Anyone know how much these wheels will travel with a big bump? Will bring it up to 4.5"
-I'm not sure if a test drive around the neighborhood will be ok or not, I live in the suburbs and they can be sensitive about that kind of thing. We'll see
-Mounted the drivers seat. Might need to move it towards the tunnel

Wow, it's been a while!
Since I've last posted on this thread, I've done the following (not really in order):
1) Put the body on with all latches, lights, etc...
2) Worked out a lot of kinks with the engine and timing. Runs great. Had to replace ignition module, and went ahead and replaced coil too. This is a donor build, after all. My next one will NOT be a donor.
3) Finished the dashboard and made new side dash pieces
4) Fabbed some aluminum access panels, and finished the footbox aluminum
5) Finished the headers and sidepipes. Wrapped/painted headers using DEI wrap & silicone paint.
Painted sidepipes with Ceramic rattle can paint. Both of these turned out much better than I thought they would.
6) Inspected, insured, and registered the car. If you have all of your stuff, it's a breeze. County office lady's eye were like saucers when she saw the pile of papers for it...
7) Fitted and mounted the rear hatch
8) Mounted a license plate holder with integrated camera and LED studs (to illuminate the plate)
9) Installed third brake light that works great with my Signal Dynamics turn signal module. Makes me feel much safer while driving
10) Installed the front license plate using a flip up/down holder. Only flips down if I manually do it for car shows or such.
11) Finished routing and wiring of A/C lines. All I have to do is vacuum and charge the system.
12) Aligned the wheels (twice!) and it drives like a champ. Will probably get a professional alignment done. This has proven difficult because the shops around me only do production cars and can't put in custom parameters. Anyone know of a similar production car alignment to use?
13) Aligned headlights, installed trim rings
14) Installed radiator aluminum
I've been driving it all around town, and does it get looks! Can't tell if it's because it's cool or that it has no doors... The girlfriend thinks it's the latter. So far on the road I've only had two issues, once the battery died and once I noticed the water temp was way high. I immediately found somewhere to park once it got past 210. It actually overflowed due to overheating, so at least THAT works correctly. Turns out the connector for the fan had come off. Since then, hasn't gone much above 180.
Below are some pictures, they'll be worth more than the above 1,000 words anyway...

JUST KIDDING. One of the oddest coincidences I've experienced. I had it parked in the driveway, heat-cycling the engine to cure the paint on the headers and sidepipes, when all of a sudden a semi-truck pulls up! I had a weird flashback to getting the kit... They open the door, and what do they bring out but a 250 GT! I was freaking out at that point. Of all things? All my neighbors came outside asking why I had this truck here and how long it would be. I told them it's not my fault, I'm just watching. Of course it had nothing to do with me, they were just trying to deliver another car. It just so happened they needed to take out the Ferrari to get to the other one, and I got some great pics as a result. Turns out (obviously!) that it's a kit as well on a Nissan 280Z frame, but still cool. The truck driver did not seem so enthused about my story about how my car came about because of this one
And finally, the all important First Drive with Mom. She loved it

Thanks Mark!
Upcoming items to do when I'm home next:
-Doors and windows. I have a shaved handles kit I'm aiming to use, and will try and copy Seattledad's layout.
-Get a new windshield. Mine cracked in storage, and they are expensive... Am looking at 87 Jag XJ-S in junkyards
-Splash panels. This one has really been dogging me. I need these and the doors to go on longer trips and I know they are a lot of work. Will use CJBergquist and mtwarog as inspiration for these.
-Fill in ground seams with HSRF and really start body work. I'm just going to keep going with it and see if there's a point that I say "enough". I bought all of the materials already, might as well use them.
-Carpeting. Will first go to Home Depot and Lowe's to see what they have, then I might go elsewhere and online. Would like to spend < $100 on it though.
-Upholstering the hatch mini-trunk and the sides with more marine vinyl that I have left over from the dash and trans cover. Love that stuff, and should last forever...
-Install and wire rear view mirror and cameras. Plan is to have 3 cameras total but might go to 5. 1 rear, 2 front (one for parking, one to record), and will try to get 2 for blind spots. Will see how the visibility is after mirrors are installed. The idea is that whatever function I'm using will automatically pop up on the mirror. I think through some RCA switches it could be pretty slick. The recording camera will be in conjunction with a Raspberry Pi that will save videos of my drives and hopefully come in handy should an accident occur.
- Take body panels off after getting hood and other fitments correct and apply bed liner, put in the headliner, and then install again to get ready for final paint.
Any thoughts/recommendations are appreciated!

Ok, time for another update!
Mark and Matt Dougherty spent 3 days with me working on body work, and the body is actually at paint! I am going with a dark red metallic that almost perfectly matches the powder-coating I've done.
I can't thank Mark and Matt enough for their help and fellowship, they came right in and we worked our butts off to get the car ready for paint. Mark's experience and general knowledge of these cars has made this car possible for me. Matt is all right too, if you can get him to wake up ;) Mark can't understand for the life of him why Jeff Miller takes so long to do this...haha. These guys are GREAT.
Thanks to Jeff also for his help in answering the questions I had!
We ended up getting almost all of the body work done, glassed in the spoiler, and filled in the "kidney beans" in the rear. I took the body to paint yesterday and was actually complimented on the body work, which felt good. I pick up the painted body on 4/11 and will be getting the windshield installed on 4/20, so it's going to get real busy around here. Car tentatively done in May...
Finished HSRF-ing my seams before they got there, and rough fitting the hood and doors

Thanks for the support! If you liked this one you'll REALLY like some of the other guys on here, my favorites so far have been mtwarog's "Matt's Gen 2 Coupe" and SeattleDad's "Help me spend" build thread. I just looked again for SeattleDad's and can't find it, idk why.
Man it's been a while since I posted on here, I have pretty much finished my coupe and need to get some final pictures up on here. Thanks for posting and giving me a reminder!
