I had the pleasure of having Mark Dougherty and his son Brendan up helping me get over some of the hurdles to get me from a first-start/semi-go-kart to a ready-for-bodywork condition this weekend.
I first contacted him on Wednesday, and since both of our schedules were pretty tight, he made the trip on 2 days' notice to help out someone he has hardly talked to and never met.
My list of help needed items was:
- front alignment/ride height
- rear ride height and centering 3-link
- wiper install (PA required)
- body fit
- set/align doors/hood/lid and rough in gaps
- once-over the car and second-check fasteners
We ended up, in 2 days, finishing all that plus about double more. Mark is organized and sets sensible priorities. You would think he's done this a couple times or something?!?! Had a great time learning and helping both Mark and Brendan help me. I felt I brought them up here more for an education than the work being done, and I sure learned volumes from them both. The company was great and I feel I have made a couple new great friends. Looking forward to seeing them again. Something about a 289 now slated for an FIA build comes to mind, as does LCS and the chassis for a 300SL (a long way off!).
Thanks again Mark and Brendan! For anyone considering their service, look at it this way, just like finally buying your kit, you haven't regretted it since you pulled the trigger. The same applies here, just do it, you definitely won't regret it.
